I have been looking at these two CPUs and I can’t tell which is better. They have similarly balanced specs;

Ryzen 3 3100X Both Ryzen 3 3200G

-3rd Gen -Zen Architecture -2nd Gen

-7 nm - AM4 Socket -12 nm

-Max Clock 3.9ghz -65w tdp -Max clock 4.0ghz

-No onboard Graphics -base clock 3.6ghz -Integrated Graphics

-8 threads -4 cores -4 threads

-$100.00 -$94.99

Just playing games like witcher, Destiny 1, Minecraft(easy on systems all around), call of duty, and generally more demanding games like eventually destiny 2. (after a few years and it is upgraded)
You will be happy a 3300x. We just don't want you to overspend on components you wont need... like the Prime x570

quicker? you can't compare cpu with just freq

last time I check 7 is less then 12
Fair, I am comparing it on everything, just trying to see how they compare on that front. I assume the 3100X is better, but I just wanted to double-check before switching CPUs. I am new to this, so the more feedback the better.

3rd Gen Ryzen vs 2nd Gen. 8 thread vs 4. The only advantage for the 3200G is it's iGPU.... and that because the 3100X has none. Any clock advantage is swamped by Zen2's improved ICP and 4 extra SMT threads.

The 3300X is even better, if you can swing that go for it instead. The only thing to consider instead is a 1600AF, but even then only if you get it for the $85 MSRP.

I am trying to get a similar cpu while balancing with my asrock rx 570

There is no 3100x.

There is a 3100 and a 3300x. If you have a discrete graphics card both of these CPUs have an advantage over the 3200g. If you do not have a discrete GPU then the 3400g is a better choice over the 3200g, because the 3400g is a 4 core/ 8 thread CPU - same as the 3100 and 3300x, but the architecture is better on these so if you were to add a discrete GPU to the 3200g or 3400g the 3100 and 3300x would still outperform the ones with integrated graphics.

Paired with a rx570 the 3100, 3300x, or... as stated by drea.drechsier

Another consideration is the motherboard you plan on pairing it with though, this will also effect the CPU choice.

Balance? Why worry about balance?

At the performance point you're talking right now, leapfrog if you can. That is: buy a processor that will 'balance' your NEXT GPU, not this one. The next upgrade would then be the GPU...purchased to balance the NEXT processor. And so on.

There are plenty of CPU upgrades...and GPU upgrades.....that will come down in price as the next generation of each come into the market. You should be able to keep each leapfrog pretty cheap if done at the right time, and from where you're at there's plenty of performance until you get to the top of what an AM4 socket motherboard can handle.

The 3400G is a little more expensive then it is worth to me

If I had to pick between Ryzen 3 3200G, R5 3400G or Ryzen 3 3100/ R5 1600AF, then I would really need to ask to myself am I going to play games, or just work?. Since you talk about an RX 570, then you may likely wana play games with it, in that case either 3100 or 1600AF will be the choices I would pick.

Now if youre not gaming it will all depend on the type of work you do.

I want to be able to upgrade for at least 4-6 years. I probably won't upgrade constantly, but it'll save me money in the future (hopefully). What else would you have personally suggested.
you may be able to upgrade to Ryzen 4th gen, but that's about it. You're not going to be able to upgrade the whatever CPU is released in 2025 with an X570
