Hello,

I currently use a 1080p 60Hz VA panel monitor (Benq GW2470). My use cases are:
  1. 75% work (documents, spreadsheets, presentations, Visio, etc.)
  2. 25% gaming (GTA5, AoE, MW)
Though weighted lesser at 25%, gaming is something I enjoy during my leisure time for relaxation and is quite an important factor. My graphics card (1070 Strix) is able to consistently push out 60 FPS in GTA5 and MW Remastered, and 150 in MW2 (all at max quality and at monitor's native 1080p). I am not sure if the 1070 will push out 100FPS in future game titles; 60 may be doable for the next 2-3 years. I don't see movies in this monitor so HDR is not a feature I desperately need.

I have a ROG Phone 2 so I know how smooth 120Hz feels like. Also, I have a 4k Dell XPS 13 so I know how crisp text looks like in a 4k display.

The question I am confused about is: Should I get:

a 144Hz 2k IPS monitorto benefit from 144Hz throughout OS/Office and in 'select' games. The downside will be lower resolution when compared to 4k (though marginally better than current 1080p; also the 1070 cannot do 4k in games unless quality is lowered significantly).
a 60Hz 4k IPS monitorto benefit from higher resolution throughout OS/Office (but not in any game; will have to reduce resolution and/or quality for playable framerates). The downside will be 60Hz throughout OS/Office and all games as in my current monitor.

Any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

Get a 144hz 1080p. That card will struggle with 2k and 4k

I’m with this. I can’t remember the exact figure but I recall 1440p is approximately 70% more pixels for the gpu to drive than 1080p. Now the load increase is not linear there is significantly more work for the gpu. I game at 1440p and while I would not go back to 1080p. I’m using a 2080S and it is not over powered at all, I’m actually looking forward to the 3000 series as I would like more gpu power. I really think asking a 1070 to run 1440p is too much for it.
