[SOLVED] Ryzen 5 1600AF memory speed

I was checking the AMD website and i saw that the "system memory specefication" for the Ryzen 5 1600AF is 2667Mhz, does this mean that it's the maximum memory speed supported by the CPU? if i get higher speed memory of say 3200Mhz will it be limited to 2667mhz by the CPU?

I'm not sure if the memory speed is determined by the CPU or the motherboard or both, but i will be using the ASUS PRIME A320M-K motherboard, that board supports a maximum of 3200Mhz speed memory.

you can run 3200mhz and even more on ryzen 5 1600AF.

Have no worries,because nobody in their right mind would use 2667mhz on ryzen chip.Most of ryzen systems dont have ram speeds below 3000mhz.Again,you can use 3200mhz with no problems.

2667 is the JEDEC speed the integrated memory controller is optimized for...it's not the fastest memory speed or even the best one for the cpu because the IMC is only one part of the chip. Memory speed is usually limited by a combination of things like the IMC, BIOS support, memory trace layout, and others. In general the 1600AF should be able to match 2000 series Ryzen chips so expect to top out somewhere between 3400 and 3600 based on the quality of your motherboard, memory chips, and of course the cpu silicon lottery.

Update: i checked out the french version of the AMD website, and it sais "vitesse de mémoire maximale: 2667Mhz" which translates to "Maximum memory speed: 2667 Mhz", besides, i did some digging and found out that the R5 1600AF may support higher speed memory but may be unstable.

You can run 2x8GB up to 3466MT/s without too much issue, but you are likely to have the most success with 2933-3200MT/s. The 1600 AF is based on the Ryzen 5 2600 and has the same limitations of Ryzen 2000 (and Ryzen 3000 APUs, also based on Ryzen 2000)

Stated memory "speed" for CPU is maximum memory controller frequency over which it's considered IMC overclocking. Most Ryzen, specially 2nd and 3rd gen, can run memory at 4000MHz+ only motherboard and BIOS are real limits.
