I have a gtx 970 and a ryzen 5 2600 with 16gb 3200mhz ddr4 and I was wondering if it is worth it to overclock my ryzen 5 or dont overlclock it and use less power.
Overclock as you wish and see how it impacts your gaming.
If you get a nice benefit, then consider if the added electricity cost is worth it.
You can use a killawatt meter to measure before and after watts usage. https://www.amazon.com/P3-P4400-Electricity-Usage-Monitor/dp/B00009MDBU
My guess is that it might cost you a couple of bucks a month.
If you have the capability of overclocking, why not??
Games often depend on the single core performance and a oc to a r5-2600 can only help.
If the cost of electricity where you live is insane, perhaps not.
I do have the capability but I was just wondering if it even makes a difference with a gpu like the 970 cuz last year we had a total power usage of 7000 kWH so if it makes makes like no or 2 fps difference with a gtx 970 it would be a waste of electricity. I’ve see many videos of the ryzen 5 2600 oc vs stock but those videos were with a 1080 or 1080ti

Even overclocked Ryzen is very efficient, so efficient the delta power consumption will be hard for you to measure in actual use. Also, I have to think your GPU will consume far more power than the CPU while gaming.
The better question is where is the bottle neck: the Ryzen5? or the older GTX 970? If it's the GPU then overclocking the processor won't do much.
