Question Ryzen 5 3600 Not observing BIOS Temperature limits

Hi everybody,

Im experiencing some trouble trying to limit my CPU temps in BIOS.
Build:
-ASUS TUF B450 Gaming Plus
-AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (All-core OC@4.2GHz - 1.1625V in ryzen master)
-Be Quiet! Dark Rock Slim
-Corsair vengeance LPX 4x8Go@3200Mhz(running @3333Mhz with slightly shorter timings)
-Be Quiet! 500DX case with 2x front intake + 1 back exhaust (140mm Pure wings 2)

Its not a cooling hardware/thermal paste/mounting issue, but a BIOS/OC problem i have here.
(Thermal Paste changed a few weeks ago, with cleaning of CPU/Heat sink)

I tried limiting the CPU temp to different values in PBO settings but seems to change nothing.

Also tried to update BIOS to latest version, resetting bios, enabling/disabling PBO..

I tested values with both HWinfo and Ryzen master, and stress testing with prime 95 or Ryzen master build-in stress test.

Temps in Prime95 are not so alarming but since i set CPU temp limit in BIOS to 80 i should get some thermal throttling but the CPU just keeps giving max perf.

Temps in Ryzen Master build-in stress test are kinda concerning :disrelieved:

I saw another post with the same topic trying to google this issue but it seems like it was a MSI Game boost related issue which could not be my case since im on ASUS Mobo.

Why is my CPU not thermal throttling ? I tried everything thats in my actual knowledge, hope someone can HELP !

CPUID HWMonitor is well known for giving inflated maximum readings.

It says my 7950X has reached 6522MHz at some point on all 16 cores. I just ignore it now.

Try HWiNFO and AIDA64, then compare their readings with HWMonitor.
https://www.hwinfo.com/
https://www.aida64.com/downloads

Stop worrying.
Hi thanks for your answer,
The screenshots i posted are HWiNFO as said in the post. Also the readings are similare to ryzen master and adrenalin software.
Im not particularly worried, i just want to understand how my cpu is not applying the parameters im trying to give it.

Sorry, my mistake. I couldn't make out exactly which program you were using on my smartphone screen.

Regardless of what monitoring program you use, take all the readings with a proverbial pinch of salt. They're not as accurate as you expect.

If the computer is running normally with no signs of distress, e.g. BSODs, sudden shutdowns, corrupted files, non-bootable Windows drives, etc., just keep an eye on it for a few days and don't get paranoid.

That is not really the fix i need but thanks for your answer.

Test with the case fan door open as well. Make sure you have the latest bios..

That's running pretty warm for sure. But you are pushing 135W package power. That's likely pushing you over your thermal envelope.

That's a lot of watts and likely your issue. You can have a Small cooler, Performance, and a Cooler running cpu But you can only pick 2.

I think you're asking rather a lot of a mid-range air cooler like the Dark Rock Slim with only four heat pipes and a single 120mm fan, especially if you want to run a 4.2GHz all-core overclock and keep the temperatures down to 80C.

You'd be better off with a big air cooler like the Peerless Assassin 120SE, Dark Rock Pro 4, Deep Cool Assassin IV or Noctua NH-D15.

Better still, get a 240mm or 360mm AIO if you want to soak up the heat.
