So I have read that the 3600x can boost up to 4.4Ghz... I can only boost mine stable to 4.25. On stock settings, the highest the chip boosts to is 4.2, so the OC at a stable and constant 4.25 is fine. Why doesnt it get to what its rated? Is there something Im missing? I am fairly familiar with BIOS and votage/OC settings and have tried A LOT of settings. Is the PSU good enough lol?

Ryzen 3600x
Asus B450-f motherboard
16 gb of 3200 corsair ram
650w corsair psu
RTX 2080 from EVGA
1TB m.2
500 GB SSD
1TB HDD

what games are you playing? have you tried it at full load? maybe your cpu does not need to go to 4.4 so it stays below
In general benchmarking and in games under load (cinebench r 20, modern warfare ect.) The load useage is 99-100% at all times especially in furmark... Hwinfo, task manager and cpu z all give 4.23- 4.24 max. Temps are not the issue, i have a 360 aio and barely hit upper 50's after 30+ miuntes of cinebench

What BIOS version are you using ?
How is PBO set ?
Did you install the newest AMD B450 Chipset drivers ?
Do you use The AMD Ryzen Balanced Power Plan ?

I had my 3700x installed on an Asus ROG Strix B450-F for a few weeks and it hit 4.375 GHz on multiple cores in Cinebench R20 and was hitting 4.4 GHz when gaming with PBO set to Auto.

For whatever reason, the power plan was set back to the default windows balanced... I changed that as well as enabled PBO, added an offset to the SOC voltage and now have a stable and constant 4.35 Ghz on all cores, two of which boost just a little to the 4.4 as advertised. I score just over a 3800 in cinebench R20, which improved by about 150 or so points. Not much of a jump in performance but I am bored so blah...

First I have 3600 Ryzen and it's the same as yours, although you have 3600X, it's all about that silicon lottery tho. My CPU boost clock is 4.2GHz and it gets to that, on all cores gets to 4.125 MHz, and I can overclock the CPU up to 4.3GHz with 1.3625v latest BIOS on MSI B450 Tomahawk Max MB - 1004 Patch B Bios. And 2 days ago AMD released new Chipset drivers for B450 Chipset https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-am4/b450 here download them and just instal them above what ASUS gave you, it will overwrite them with these new ones. If you overclock your CPU use High Performace in Power Options in Control Panel, and go in PBO and just enable it, don't add custom watts or amps currents just click ENABLED, that will do. I don't know why you bought the 3600x, it is just the same as 3600 but 40-50$ more money for bearly 50-100MHz that might work or might not. Silicon lottery again. I can say mine is kinda better on the silicon lottery. Although I use it now the 3600 overclocked @ 4.2GHz - 1.35v with 3200MHz ram. Oh and my highest score in C20 on 4.2Ghz was 3814 see what I am saying, and Single Core 514 on 4.2GHz PBO just ENABLED. But on 4.3GHz I got a score of 3911 and Single of 522 which is very insane. Don't have pictures at the moment to show you, but I will re-do and I'll post you images to see. It is all down to silicon lottery, you can find very good 3600X that might give you scores close to 3700X, crazy stuff ah?! But I saw that you said NOW with PBO you finally get your advertise clock speed of 4.4ghz, it should not be like that, AMD needs to give us the advertised speed, you should hit 4.4ghz on single-core from beginning and by adding PBO and adding that 200MHz + you should be able to squeeze more, on single-core, like 100MHz more 4.5Ghz or smt., but yes AMD is bad with advertised clock speeds. Make sure that you are on latest AMD ComboPI1.0.0.4 Patch B, BIOS cuz this BIOS was intended to boost the clocks for those CPUs that couldn't hit their advertised single-core speed, AMD just gives to the general public how much their CPU hit or could hit on single-core, there are not like intel, where intel tells you single-core XXXX this much and all core boost XXXX this much etc.

Ah, thank you! Just got downloaded that chipset driver and am playing around with PBO options and what not... it seems like this 4.5 ghz oc I have on right now is actually working. I like to run intelburn for about half an hour to make sure its good.
Thanks for your input

(the only reason I got a 3600x is that my brother bought it for me for christmas.... i had a 2600 that i was fine with, but he insisted on that for a christmas gift... he wanted the cooler, its a little beefier on the "x" and he knew i had an aio.... he bought the chip for me and the cooler for himself ha)

I have been having good luck with lowering temps and voltage, on my 3600x / asus rog strix x470 f gaming by disabling percission boost in bios advanced section cbs.
After 12 hrs yesterday of p95 blend no avx highest temp was 67c @4.325 all core @ 1.30125V
LLC 3 130% and optimized in Digi-vrm
In ai tweaker pbo manual setting
PPT @180
TDC @114
EDC @180
10x scaler /200mhz, thermal manual, @95
Will check on power plan when i get back thur and let you know.
Cb r20 m/c 3944 to 3955
S/c 505
Before the Oc i was able to hit 4.392g highest on 2 cores, but still had lower cb scores.
Idle temps this morning was 22c per Rm and hwinfo64.
Have A Great Weekend Guys!!!!!!!!!
