Will the Ryzen 9 3900x be compatible with my Asus Prime x470-Pro motherboard? If yes, is that cpu a great upgrade from my current Ryzen 5 2600x?
It will be compatible with an up to date bios. I would keep the 2600x until the 3900x is up and running so you always got the option to get back to bios.
It will be a tremendous performance upgrade for productivity. If you are only gaming the 3700x will be cheaper and just as good.
Being your 2600x is probably plenty for the RTX 2070....I don't see you getting a big boost with the 3700x as far as gaming....at least for now...but it does have two more cores...so it may help with future proofing. For just gaming is it reasonable to upgrade from my 2600x to a 3700x? I have no issues with my current 2600x even because I have it paired with an RTX 2070 Extreme. But just itching for a worthy upgrade.
Dont fix it if it aint broken. We all know the itch to get new and shiny hardware. But in the end, dont spend your money now if you got no issues. You will look at it later and say "damn I wouldve thought it made a bigger difference"For just gaming is it reasonable to upgrade from my 2600x to a 3700x? No such thing as future proofing. Ryzen is taking exponential leaps with each architecture upgrade so there is little to no future proofing for ANY cpu. For example, Zen is a bit outdated even though it's only like 2 generations ago.Being your 2600x is probably plenty for the RTX 2070....I don't see you getting a big boost with the 3700x as far as gaming....at least for now...but it does have two more cores...so it may help with future proofing.
