Hello everyone

disclaimer: it is my very first self built PC; i have no experience with OC; please excuse my bad english :)

my specs:

Motherboard:
Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. X570 AORUS XTREME (AM4) - Bios version F11 (09.12.2019, latest) XMP profile 1 enabled (rest on default)

CPU:
AMD Ryzen 9 3950x: Latest Chipsetdriver installed from AMD Website

Graphics:
3071MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (Gigabyte) (no OC, latest Driver installed)

RAM:
64Gb (2x 2x16Gb) G Skill Trident Z Neo 3600 (F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC)

PSU:
Seasonic Prime Ultra Platinum (1000W)

Cooling:

Custom Watercooled; 3x 360mm Rad; 10x 120mm Fans

Resolution:
2560 x 1440

Windows Ver. 1909

My problem is, when i play games (mostly just PUBG) i get max 144fps but with constant drops and very unstable frametimes, it just feels wrong and not smooth at al, ofc especially in areas with lots of people around (hot drop or fights).
I did run cinebench R20 (9200 Points) and timespy extreme (7964) points. As far as im concerned those results look decent, maybe a little underwhelming but no big deal.
i have .hml files from my MSI afterburner logs while i performed the above mentioned tasks (gaming includet).

So to summ it up. In my opinion the Gaming experience im having ist a no go, a setup like this (especially for the price) has to performe a lot better (or am i wrong on this?).

I hope you can help me out on this and im looking forward to read your comments / Posts.

cheers

2080TI with 3GB VRAM?

RAM:
64Gb (2x 2x8Gb) G Skill Trident Z Neo 3600 (F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC)

2x 2x8GB. That's 32GB of RAM. Not 64.

And don't listen to whoever said this was an entry lvl CPU for gaming. The 3950x is not that far away from the 9900k

It's the term for each mobo for xmp.
Asus = docp= is xmp
Gigb =xmp
Msi i think is a-xmp
So enable xmp on your sytem for your ram.
There maybe 2 profiles tey them both see what happens.

In my asus x470 fclk is in Ai tweaker next heading down under dram frequency.
oh yeah yeah XMP for Aorus, ill do that morrow and post the CPU-Z log 😀

Will be around !!!
By using just 2 sticks for now it will be easier to try to track down issues that could lead to the sutters.

2x16gb sticks is better and easier to tune and allows for most ram speeds to run at rating or higher.
When 4 sticks is used the Amd systems still default the ram speed to 3200 or in some cases a little over with lots of tinkering to get it there.

So test with 2 see how it does.

How long do you have on the return policy for the ram ?

Hello there. So i did the following:

  • Installed RAM in Slot A2 & B2
  • Went into BIOS (BIOS 1 and BIOS 2) and enabled XMP Profile 1 (3600 MHz ...)
  • I took CPU-Z snapshots:
Memory:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=18yY4y4JYFwc7ETBhX3UwbU6t2Lsjs2tm

SPD:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1tLVEqSCOirJqZywRRWzuczm1TYPExhqw

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1yZq7zf03TzlhoE0fJVCsohkBd3BkEvEa

CPU:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1YvUf1OB3PksNlUkLU0ocufa_p7ZCqoPd

now the following is strange:
Memory is not running at 3600 but only at 1800 from what i can see in CPU-Z?
CPU is running at 4323 MHz!!! it should run at 3500 with no OC (i did not OC and did not tweak in BIOS apart form XMP).

something is clearly wrong and i wanna find out 😀

Everything looks fine in those CPU Z screenshots. A DRAM frequency of 1800 MHz corresponds to an effective speed of 3600 MHz (because it's Double Data Rate memory), so that's fine.

The 3950X can automatically boost up to 4.7 GHz at stock settings.
oh ok my bad then 😀 so why do i still get those stutters 😀

What utility are you using to monitor temperature? Run Cinebench R20 (with all/32 threads) and then use either Ryzen Master or HWiNFO to see the highest temp it reaches over the course of the benchmark.
im using MSI Afterburner, i posted the Logfiles in the googledrive Link in the Main. There you can see temperatures of CPU and GPU while running 300s of Cinebench R20. If you can open the logfiles that is, maybe MSI Afterburner required for that.

So from looking at your specs again
Did you buy 2 sets of ram for a total of 32gb ?
Good call, if the ram is the following it's two sets of 32Gb, rather than a matched set of 64, which may be the problem:
https://www.gskill.com/product/165/326/1562840211/F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC-Overview

Did you buy two sets of the above ram cecchfab?

If the OC on the GPU was set with afterburner I very much doubt that that is causing the CPU boost speed to be so low.

Have you tried removing one of the 32 Gb sets of ram and seeing how the system runs?

NB: please be careful not to mix the sets!

If you run a benchmarking app with HWInfo open you can look at the max boost speed on individual cores - should go up to 4.7 Ghz for at least one core.

hello i tryed just with 2 RAM sticks (one set and i payed attention to the Serial number so they are the same "Batch") as suggested by Crosslhs82x2. System still stutters.

I did Run Benchmarks like FIrestrike and R20 and monitored it with Afterburner (Link to Logfiles in the Main).

Why HWinfo? is Afterburner not good?

Not aware of any problems with afterburner, but there are some technical issues around measuring clock speeds that latest HWInfo handles well (https://www.hwinfo.com/forum/threads/effective-clock-vs-instant-discrete-clock.5958/) - maybe afterburner also deals with this well, don't know.

When you did a test with just two sticks, did you reset cmos? Good idea to do that, need to look at the proper procedure for your rig so you don't damage anything.

Did you try the other set ?
the same way as the 1st set

As Tj said cpu-z looks good for that set.
What about the other set ?
And yes cmos reset as My pc suggested with just the ram settings for both sets.

I did the cmos reset and just altered the XMP thing form disabled to Profile 1
I did try both sets and both perform equal aka sturreing in game.

Also in the games you are trying are they set at default settings?
Have you changed anything in nvidia control panel ? And have you added the game in nvidia control panel Program list?
hello i did this in NVIDIA:

and I lowered the graphics settings to try to reduce stutter but i did not work

You can use windows accessories
Snipping tool.
Click new
Point left click and hold
Drag to highlight area
Release left click
Click file / save as and name it.
It will save to your picture file.
Then use imgur.com to upload then paste address.

On hwinfo 64 open and run sensors only.

Did you install the latest chipset drivers from AMD website?

Hi, I don't know why in all cpu-z memory pics it says 64GB of RAM. Are you sure you removed 2 sticks of ram and left them out of the system ?

Also another thing you can try with a Ryzen 9 3950 is to just disable SMT. SMT is like Intels HT (Hyperthreading). Doing that instead of 16 cores and 32 thread, your Ryzen 9 3950 cpu will run with only 16 physical cores, while leaving the extre 16 logical cores OFF. In any case 16 physical cores it eh double of what the Core i9 9700K and 9900K have lol so it should be more than enough for PBUG

In short, I would really make sure of 3 things:

  1. You have only installed 2 sticks of RAM (for a total of 32GB)
  2. Go to BIOS -> Tweaker -> Advanced CPU Settings -> and check that "Core Performance Boost: Auto" and then you can go down to "SMT Mode: " and set it to disable. If changing SMT Mode to disable doesn't fix the issue then go back to BIUOS and turn it back to Auto again.
