I want to get a ryzen CPU but im not sure which one? Can someone please advise?

I want to use it primarily for gaming at max settings , and want it to be future proof. (atm I have a gtx 970 but i plan to upgrade this too)

Obviously the R7 are more expensive but I hear its because they serve a broader purpose (productivity).

Do I need a ryzen R7 ? If so, which one?

If a R5 will suffice for now and for the future (5 years +-), then which R5 should I go for?

Which motherboard is best for whichever cpu I choose? ( I plan to overclock the cpu under an air cooled system )

Thank you.

Goto youtube, look at videos of the games you play. See if the R5 is good enough. If not get the R7.

But wait a week, the intel Coffee Lake CPU...
I have an r5 1600 on an asrock killer. It will serve me well for 5 years no problem I think. If you want something a little better I would recommend the r5 1600x on an asrock tiachi. By the sound of what you want I think that would do well for you. R7 isn't necessary for high level gaming I don't think, but I haven't pushed mine that hard yet.

But wait a week, the intel Coffee Lake CPU appearing next week goes to 6 cores and will either have a large price increase vs Kaby Lake or will really drop the price of Ryzen.

Aside, for gaming at Max settings Intel tends to deliver higher frame rates at the same price. I have as many AMD cpus as intel (many of both) but would personally favor intel over Ryzen for max gaming (more consistent frame rate delivery, higher frame rate).
