i was wondering, what is a safe temp for a amd fx 8350 cpu. I am currently running into 72-73c prim95 full load with all power saving and thermal controls disabled. i have a h55 water cooler atm. also I have ordered a thermalake water cooler ultimate 3.0 360mm, would that suffice enough for over clocking aspect at around 5Ghz?

Best to use AMD Overdrive and monitor thermal margin instead of temp, at least for the first few OCs.

You can use the full TM down to zero if you want, although I like to leave it a bit above that myself. Besides, if your FX-8350 is anything like the two I have had, you will throttle before that.

Here's why AOD is preferred: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2122665/understanding-temperature-amd-cpus-apus.html
Once you can confirm that your 3rd party temp pgm is accurate compared to AOD, you can continue using it if you prefer. When you get down to zero degree thermal margin, compare that to the core temp reported by your 3rd party app to see...

Hi, i have the FX-8370 and i do think 72 is the max stable temps for your cpu, i belive its that for mine to, they are pretty similar. I read this somewhere, it might be false so dont take my full word for it. But try to use an utility to check if your card it throttling at that temp, if it is you should downclock a bit to safer temps until you get a better cooler, thats what i have to say to your situation anyways. I have my 8370 overclocked to 4.3ghz on stock cooler lmao. It runs very cool for stock cooler, around 62-68c. Idk why everyone say its bad but it works, just noisy as hell tbh. Oh well, i hope what i said helped. ;-)

It's a rare FX-8xxx that can run a stable 5GHz. I felt happy just to get mine to 4.7 GHz.
