The other day I was troubleshooting my computer, and I managed to fry the sys_fan2 connector by plugging in fans that were already powered by a molex connector, incredibly stupid I know. I've never done anything like this before so the first thing I did was turn on my computer (after the 4 pin was unplugged of course) and everything seems to be working and running except that the only thing that happens is a black screen when I turn it on, so I assume it's the cpu that is destroyed, or the motherboards abillity to power it. So my question is, is it risky in any way to test the components that were in this computer while it happened on another system so I can identify what's working and what is not?

Solution
Any signs of physical damage or smells when powered on? I would try a CMOS clear just to try. If damage has occurred, the board itself likely is where the damage happened. You should be fine testing components individually in another PC such as GPU, CPU, RAM, ect. if needed.
