[SOLVED] Safely installing a PCI WiFi Card with Bluetooth 5.0

I just bought a new Ubit Gigabit AC 1730Mbps Bluetooth 5.0 Wireless WiFi Card from Amazon.

I am installing it in an old Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq 6200 Pro MT PC with an HP 1497 motherboard.

The instructions say to only connect the Bluetooth to an open USB port on the motherboard marked "USB".

I could not find an open one so I disconnected one of the front USB ports and used that.

The card works. WIFI works and Bluetooth works. But, when I boot up the PC, I get a warning that one of the front USB cables is disconnected and I have to hit F1 to finish booting the computer.

There are 2 open MEDIA ports on the motherboard but I don't know whether I can safely use one of them for my Bluetooth connection and reconnect the front USB cable to avoid the F1 headache on every startup.

I'd be grateful for some knowledgeable advice.

I enabled the "Bypass F1 Prompt on Configuration Changes" but I'm still getting the error on boot: "921 - Front USB not connected" and I still have to hit F1 to finish loading Windows.

I've rebooted several times and verified that the Bypass is set to "Enabled" but it still hangs at the error.

I'm still curious about the Media connections on the motherboard. Would they work in lieu of the USB connection? It would be nice to have access to all the front USB ports if the Media connection would work.

I read that they are for connecting card readers so I'm assuming they are similar to the USB connection but, again, I don't want to damage the new WiFi card.

Try contacting HP, see what they say.

Try also disabling that setting in BIOS, reconnecting the USB to the front panel, and, if message gone, enabling the setting and then connecting the card.

Unless the ports are actually marked as USB headers I would not use them. According to this http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/specs-hewlett-packard-1497/ there are 4 USB headers on the motherboard though. Can't find a picture online to check the board.

After reading the HP thread you referenced and hang-the-9's post about 4 USB headers, I decided to take a chance and try using the "MEDIA" header assuming that they were the missing USB headers mentioned by hang-the-9.

The new WiFi card connected to our new Xfinity XFi modem is getting me download speeds approaching 200 Mbps.

Bluetooth is working fine off the MEDIA header and I was able to reconnect the front USB ports and have them back in service as well.

And, of course, no F1 hangup on boot!

I'm a happy camper!
