Evening all
In a random twist of fate: I was given a gaming laptop for my birthday two years ago, by people who are NOT gamers - fifteen of them got together - and got me the Sager NP9280 with specs as follows:
•17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200)
•Intel Core i7-975 Extreme 3.33GHz w/8MB Cache 130W
•12,288MB (12GB) DDR3 1066MHz Triple Channel Memory (3 SODIMMS)
•1,024MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce GTX 280M DDR3 DX10 (User Upgradeable)
•Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW 5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW Drive w/Software
•320GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache)
•No HDD RAID
•Built-in Intel Wi-Fi Link 5300AGN - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN
•Internal Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR
•Built in 3.0 Megapixel Camera
•Internal 7-in-1 Card Reader (MS/MS Pro/MS Duo/MS Pro Duo/SD/Mini-SD/MMC/RS)
•Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio - Included
•Basic Black Business Case - Included
•Full Range Auto Switching AC Adapter - Included
•Smart Li-ion Battery (12 Cell)
•Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit) + Free Windows 7 Upgrade Coupon
•Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student Edition - (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/OneNote)
Obviously warranties are no longer valid so I'll have to buy the new graphics card and also find a guy to install it - I'm a gamer not an engineer folks. I can't rewire a plug without blowing my hands off....
Given the specs of the system, what is the most powerful graphics card I can get away with, so that I don't have to upgrade and can play Dead Island, Space Marine, RAGE and other games without needing an upgrade in the next year or two?
Thanks!
