Samsung 840 Evo is not being detected!

I got a samsung 840 evo desktop kit. Keep in mind that in addition to this, I upgraded to an asus z87 pro and got a new processor (i5-4670k). The processor and motherboard are working fine. What I have yet to get working is the samsung 840 120gb SSD. I have upgraded the bios to the most recent version through USB flash, which was successful. I am putting it in a sata 6gb/s slot, one of the 6, not the last 2 which are black slots instead of tan. It simply is not existent to the computer or magician. I have put the usb adapter into the computer and plugged in the SSD and was able to see it in disk management where I allocated the space and made it active; this allows me to use the SSD like an external harddrive. The problem here is that even when I have the SSD detected through USB, it doesn't get detected by magician. However, it is detected in BIOS and data transfer, which I don't need because I am installing a newer version of Windows, but that is irrelevant. Any help would be appreciated so I can start using my SSD.

Thanks.

Try going to device manager.

Start > Computer > Right Click it > Manage > Storage > Device Manager.

Your SSD *SHOULD* be listed under there. If it is, you can right click on the drive and click "new volume". It will then guide you through a simple process to set up the SSD as a new volume.

On a side note, will you be installing an OS onto the SSD, or using it as another drive.

I have done this already when it was plugged in using the USB cable that comes with the Desktop Kit. When it is plugged in via USB it obviously has slower speeds. In addition, it is not recognized in the magician software. On top of that, Windows does not allow for it to be installed to a USB device, it must be installed to the motherboard. To answer your last question, yes, I do intend to install Windows to this SSD.

Is the drive visible in BIOS? If it is then you can just fresh install windows to it by plugging it in and booting it up.

The only time it shows up in the BIOS is when I have it plugged in via USB, which, as I have previously mentioned cannot have Windows installed because it doesn't allow for it to be installed when its connected through USB.

No luck, I even used 2 different cables.

If you have tried everything I had as per this thread, then call Samsung. The guy I spoke to was super helpful and nice and made the process easy. Mine turned out to be defective. They sent me a new one and viola, it works!

Good luck!

P.s. Sorry to you and everyone else for not remembering this thread. I totally forgot to post the solution :/

Thanks! I also spoke with Samsung and determined that something was awry with the drive. My replacement drive should arrive tomorrow. Hopefully it will work. Also, through the process I discovered there to be known issues with the Marvell controllers on my motherboard. So I will be using the SATA II (3 Gbp/s) Intel ports instead for better performance.
