Hello Guys
I´m looking to get a SSD and i´m between the Samsung 840 Pro 128gb and the Plextor PX-128M5PRO, which one is better? why?

I´ve read a lot about the Samsung 840 Pro and its so good, but the Plextor is reputed as one of the fastest SSD in the market (Dont know when)

The price of each one in Spain is:

-Samsung 840 Pro (128€ [164$]) http://bit.ly/17elooX

-Plextor PX-128M5 Pro (119€ [152$])

Thanks!

They are both very good. I would go with the Samsung just based on overall reliability. Really either is a good choice though.

Samsung. Samsung drives have a great record of being reliable with the 470, 830, 840 and 840 Pro series. The 840 Pro is also a bit faster. When I upgrade to a newer, larger SSD soon it will be to a Samsung drive.

Another question, what´s about the controller? The Plextor uses Marvell 88SS9187 and Samsung MDX three-core, which is faster?

Samsung. They are the only company that builds SSDs from the ground up. They manufacture the NAND they assemble the drives they build the controllers and they write their own firmware.

The only drive that is close in speed to an 840 Pro is the OCZ Vector. And OCZ has a really bad track record of failing drives. The 840 Pro is slightly faster anyway.

There are reviews that state the Vector is superior to the 840 pro in the 128gb capacity due to the 840's poor latency on the 128gb drives. At 128gb the OCZ Vector, and the Plextor m5 pro Xtreme are apparently the best drives. At 256+ it's the Samsung 840 pro.

There arn't many reviews out yet for the Plextor m5 pro Xtreme though, only a few for the regular m5 pro with Xtreme firmware, but the real Xtreme version had hardware changes as well.

If you care to read.
The M5 pro Xtreme gets tested though grueling conditions to make sure that there are absolutely no errors.
The Samsung has a lot of feedback about dead drives.
Also, the M5 is on newer better tech, and is faster than the Samsung on many levels, (although slower in others)
Most of this again, is only because the Plextor is newer.

Remember, some claim that the Plextor is enterprise grade, with a 5 year warrenty and top quality.
