Hi! Im planning to buy mobo any of these two boards
Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming G1
Gigabyte GA-Z170X Gaming 7

along with it i will buy a Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SSD

My question is,
1) will the samsung M.2 850 evo 250gb be compatible on the m.2 slot of the two board?
2) if yes, i should be using the M.2 ssd for my OS?

P.S Im sorry this will be the first time im using ssd on my build.

Solution
It will work but you will not get great performance out of a sata M.2 drive (same as 2.5" SATA model). PCI based M.2 based drives will be a lot better. Try to get a SATA express or PCI M.2 drive instead if you want a boost in speed.

Either way, both motherboards will work and you should use the M.2 drive as the boot drive.

Here is the spec

-Product Type M.2
-Interface SATA 6Gb/s Interface, compatible with SATA 3Gb/s & SATA 1.5Gb/s interface
-Capacity 250 GB (1GB=1 Billionbyte by IDEMA) *
-*Actual usable capacity may be less (due to formatting, partitioning, operating system, applications or otherwise)
-Sequential Read Speed Up to 540 MB/sec Sequential Read *
*Performance may vary based on system hardware & configuration
-Sequential Write Speed Up to 500 MB/sec Sequential Write *
-*Performance may vary based on system hardware & configuration
Memory Speed:
-Samsung 32 layer 3D V-NAND
-Samsung 512 MB Low Power
-DDR3 SDRAM

Pci based m.2 will work on the 2 boards?

yes like the samsung 950 pro

I just want to thank you for pointing this out.. My samsung 850 EVO SSD 500GB is actually faster than this samsung 850 evo m.2. There is no point in getting an m.2 for me unless i go with the m.2 samsung 950..
