hi, I am new to the ssd scene, just decided to give in and get an "overhyped" samsung evo 850 250gb ssd. I am not a gamer, but need a good fast drive. I feel like I bought a lambo but getting a toyota prius speeds...thanks in advance!

quad core intel 2.4ghz
4gb ram

how to make the switch? can you plz be more specific, sounds a little ambiguous, thanks!

Thank you all for your input, let me try enabling that via cmos, and will let you know what's up afterwards.

When I enabled AHCI mode from bios, windows keeps restarting before login screen...any ideas? thanks!

gigabyte p965-ds3

Fixed the ahci issue, thank you. But speed almost the same, picked up by 20mbytes or so.

awesome, thank you for clarifying that. So does that make the ssd worthless as a purchase? should i simply purchase a fast 2tb hdd for the price of an ssd? Does a Sata 3 card worth the upgrade?

it will still be way faster than a mechanical drive

in read/write and access times

so no not a worthless purchase

never tried a sata 3 card so dont know about how well that would work

and the evo is future proof any way should you ever upgrade motherboard to a sata 6Gbs one

I enabled rapid mode, and test results show double the speed, is that normal???

If you use rapid mode it's a good idea to have an UPS to reduce the chance of a power loss. If not, it's possible to lose data that was in RAM but not written to the drive or have corruption. Not required, but recommended.
