While it may be irrelevant to devices that will be out in the year 2014, it will certainly be relevant in the fact that being the fastest selling iPhone to date, there are plenty of damages to be collected on by Samsung should Samsung prevail.

2014 is a bit too late for the trial, hopefully during one of the hearings Samsung convinces a judge to ban the sales of the item and do exactly what Apple did to them. That would be quite hilarious to see a entire iPhone generation kick the can and Samsung getting awarded a insane amount of money.
 
If it's wrong when crapple does it; it is also true when Samsung does it. Despite not liking Apple and their philosophy.

"He hit me first" is no justification for poor behaviour.

Both companies should get their heads out of their arses and go back to making phones and other products.

Enough with the lawsuit BS, it will lead nowhere and valuable resources are spent litigating. This money could have much better uses.

When Samsung tries to right a wrong, people say it's a pissing match that needs to stop. When Apple gets away with bullshit by having a sham trial with a biased jury that steals money from Samsung, they are all for it. Apple can stop it though, they have the power. Just apologize for all the the stupid suits against Samsung and give back any money they got from the suits. No? Ok, well you know how the saying goes. Fight the bully, payback and all that good jazz.

Really? Samsung should just let (billions of) bygones be bygones? Whatever Samsung manages to do to Apple, Apple brought upon themselves.

Apple sues for:
pitch to zoom (was there YEARS ago)
rectangular shape rounded corners (facepalm)
slide to unlock (yeah)
bounce back on scroll (very frucking innovative indeed)

Samsung sues for:
core HARDWARE tech developed at Samsung, part of it has become standard and has to be offered at FRAND terms.

See the difference?
Oh, and about FRAND. Big boys gathered and decided to play nicely. Then comes Apple, enjoys FRAND terms (even trying NOT to pay freaking 6$ for a HUGE BUNCH of hardware patents, pisses off Motorola) then asks 30$ (yes, 30 freaking bucks per device for crappy "patents" I've listed above).

Does that sound right to you?

This is not and never was about any particular issue that Apple is suing anyone over in any particular court.

The recent Samsung case is not about Trade Dress (eg, Rounded Corner rectangles, etc). Other Apple lawsuits are not about the specific claims Apple is complaining about (eg, bouncy scrolling, pinch to zoom, searching more than one database at a time, etc).

For example, Samsung specifically designed a phone (Galaxy S 3) to avoid any kind of trade dress lawsuit. So what did Apple do? Sue over some other equally trivial issue.

What this is really about is that Apple doesn't want any competition. Apple feels like the entire Smartphone industry is God's Exclusive Gift to Apple by Divine Right. Apple should never have to license others' patents, even at standard rates, because Apple is special. Never mind that others have been in the business for decades. Apple should have it all now because Apple wants it all.

This is not your dad's Apple Computer anymore. This is a monopolist wannabe monster that is as bad or worse than Microsoft ever was.

I wouldn't care if Apple just wanted to have their walled garden, sell lots of toys, make boatloads (and more boatloads) of money, and leave me alone. But no, Apple wants to force me to buy their product and only their product. I can't have one of the over 4,000 Android devices that come in every size, shape, color, style and price from lots of manufacturers and on ever mobile network. So now that Apple wants to affect me, I suddenly care passionately, just like I did once with Microsoft.

How much is enough Apple? What do you want? Blood? Would that satisfy you? Aren't you successful enough to just leave everyone else alone?

And by the time Samsung gets to the point where they win this, any Apple-lawyer will be able to pay the fine, from his/her weekly food money.
 
In nearly all the articles on Tom's relevant to the litigious behavior of Apple and Samsung the author is quick to point out Samsungs billion dollar loss, as if Samsung has actually lost something. Samsung isn't going to pay Apple anything, just like Apple never put the Court ordered Apology on their Home Page.

Apple has not created they have copied, They have copied others to get to where they are. They lie in their marketing, they encourage stupidity, and they really do only sell cheep Chinese trash with a California Markup.

They are a blight on our economy, sluffing their corporate taxes by running their money through Ireland. They are the ultimate middle man company. They make almost nothing from their own creative minds, and when they do it usually goes the way of iMaps, and the Apple/Bandai Pippen.

Apple is like a fat chick, she is fat and ugly. Just because a fat chick uses massengill country flower, tosses on some makeup, doesn't mean she is not fat. People stop defending the whale in your company you deserve so much better.

@ anyone trying to back up apple now: 1. it is also Samsung's right to protect their intellectual property 2. (more importantly) companies that try to create a monopoly in any way must be sued/stopped/sent to hell. Not to forget, if Samsung does not act now, and if they keep silent, the situation will favor Apple more in the way of monopoly. A monopoly is and must be the last thing a consumer wishes for
