I have an 1tb 850EVO that has been working fine for over a year. Now all of a sudden Samsung Magician gets stuck in "scanning for drive information." If I go into device manager it shows as a Samsung EVO 850. I have uninstalled the Samsung Magician from control panel and downloaded the correct version from Samsung and still get the same problem. Any ideas? Is the drive failing?

Solution
I just did a reversion to a restore point from yesterday and it seems to have fixed the problems. The only thing I did since then was install HP's universal postscript print driver for my HP MFP426fdn printer. Apparently it caused some registry havoc. The PCL6 driver is still there and running fine. Oh well Now to update my Amazon review of the printer with a warning to others.
HD Tune 2.55, the version I have, correctly reports the drive model but has nothing under health and the info tab has none of the boxes checked. I'm wondering if there is some sort of firmware failure.
In addition to that I can't get Windows Update, Civilization 5 (where I first noticed a problem), CPU-Z to run. CPU-z stops at 5%. Civilization appears to load and shows in Processes in Task Manager and Windows Update just sits there with a spinning circle next to the mouse cursor. This all started this morning. The system is an I7-4790, 16gig, 1tb Samsung EVO850, EVGA NVIDIA 980. Other things run ok. I have done a full virus scan, Bullguard, and installed and ran Maleware Bytes (it identified 10 threats which I quarntened and then rebooted). I have also run Windows 7 System File Checker (sfc/scannow), which showed no problems.
