Samsung monitor stays on after computer is shut down

I used a HDMI cable to my samsung moniotr B2430H model everything works fine except that when I shut off my computer the monitor remains on and the check signal cable is floating around so I have to turn off the monitor manually. The LG 23 inch that I run before goes on standby mode as soon as I shuts down the computer, could it be the ATI catalyst control? or a monitor and video card incompatibility issues for sure there is no problem with the monitor. Any idea what to do or should I just leave it that way. Thank you ( I am using windows 7 )

correction: a monitor can go into a powersaving mode by itself, but not fully off

I've never had a PC monitor that shut itself off. Currently using a Samsung.

I don't know if you can set it to do that...

I do understand that the monitor doesn't turn off completely but what I mean is it doesn't go on a power saving mode or lets say standby mode. I tried already the monitor setting but it only works when the computer is on but once I shut it down the monitor remains active without going to a power saving or standby mode which my previous monitors does. I suspect the compatibility issues on my ATI video card. Is there any solution to this? it doesn't matter anyways but if I can set it up the way I got used to the better. Kept trying to play the setting on my monitor but seems there is not too much options for the monitor to go on standby mode, I suspected the connection type as well I guessed not all monitors have the standby mode function maybe it depends on the type of connection. If anybody who have the same problem who can shed some tips and information I would appreciated it, I have the samsung B2430H model with ATI 4500 HD radeon. Thank you again.

Has this problem been figured out? I'm having the same problem and would like to figure out if there is a solution.

I'm trying to run dual monitors extended.
1. Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD (HDMI in, DVI in, VGA in)
2. Planar PQ1910M (DVI in, VGA in)

My video card is an ATI Radeon HD5450 (1 HDMI out, 1 DVI out)

My computer power settings are set to put the monitors in standby after 15 minutes idle. The computer does cut the signal after 15 minutes and the Planar goes into standby (DVI-D) but the Samsung (HDMI) displays a 'no signal' message that floats around the screen. (The Samsung setting is HDMI-PC) I unhooked the Planar and connected the Samsung by DVI-D and the monitor does go into standby. Since the problem was HDMI related I decided to try and split the DVI output to both monitors. I then hooked up a DVI to DVI-D & VGA splitter, using the DVI-D with Samsung. However, extended mode did not work with that setup. I figured the video card was not capable of sending a digital and analog signal through the 1 output. I then got a DVI to DVI-D & DVI-D splitter and ran both monitors over the digital signal but extended mode did not work this way either. Strangly the computer still recognized the 2nd monitor as 'Secondary monitor VGA' (as it did with the VGA cable) even though it was hooked up through DVI. This is where I'm at now. I have an HDMI to DVI-D converter in the mail and I'm going to try the HDMI signal through the DVI input. If this works, I blame Samsung for not recognizing the HDMI code for standby. If it doesn't work I have to think it's the graphics card, which I really hope it's not.

Finally... The HDMI>DVI-D converter has solved my problem. Therefore, the reason my Samsung monitor would not go into standby mode was due to the HDMI input in the monitor. Even with the HDMI setting as PC.

What about another situation if I rely on my HDMI for sound through my monitor's speakers? I sorta figured it was in the HDMI somewhere as my DVI monitor goes into standby just fine. Also when I have my XBOX 360 hooked up through the VGA connections the Samsung shuts off when the XBOX does, I am assuming through the Anynet+ feature on this particular monitor.

I guess worst case, I could just use the DVI connection for the Samsung, switch back to a VGA for the HP and invest two bucks in the 3.5mm speaker cable. Would be nice if Samsung offered a firmware update for this. Im not holding my breathe.
