So I just picked up the new Samsung P2770H 27" LCD at Costco for $349.00.

I can't find many reviews for how it works as a gaming monitor. I currently have the Samsung 2232BW and it has a Samsung panel so the colors have been great.

This one at Costco that was on display said CT01 as a panel, so have not looked it up yet.

I also realize that some people notice no differences, etc. but was just curious if anyone has put one of these through the ringer yet?

I am going to upgrade my video card to a 5870 to support the 1920x1080 as I only have a GTX 9800 right now.

Anyway, any feedback or experience would be great.

How is your experience reading text and doing computer work on the 27" with just 1920x1080? Is the text sharp enough or does it feel that the pixels are large?

I'm seriously considering buying the P2770HD TV+monitor, primarily for a monitor, but maybe sometimes as a TV. I see that response time is 5msec vs 2 msec for monitor-only version. Is it a killer? Are there any other negatives to the TV+monitor?

thanks!

Doesn't have HDMI? I just bought one of these yesterday a BJ's Warehouse and the reason I bought it over the 24" they had was because it DID have an HDMI port! It is sitting right next to the DVI port. Did they release a new version of this monitor with HDMI? The model number is the same...HDMI is mentioned all over the box too.

Just checked the Samsung site: yes, P2770H has an HDMI connector (I'm not currently home to look at mine).

the p2770H definately DOES have an HDMI port. I am using the monitor right now. I plugged it in yesterday and used DVI as my graphics card has only DVI output. I wonder if guys are getting confused with VGA. Throw that cable away.
Use DVI or HDMI. The ONLY difference is that a HDMI cable has a digital video signal with audio in it. The DVI cable only does video and you have a seperate audio solution.

HDMI is handier as you don't have to muck about with seperate audio cables BUT since this monitor doesn't have speakers an HDMI cable is only useful if you intend to use the audio out port on the monitor. Mine is DVI connected and the sound comes out of my Xfi music card so the HDMI setup won't help with picture quality anyway. A digital signal is a digital signal. Analogue was affected by crappy cables etc.
Just pointing that out as some cards now have HDMI connectors but it won't make any difference over DVI if you are only using the video signal.

The monitor is bright. It is not as sharp as a 24 inch monitor but it wouldn't expect to be. 1920x1080 on both 24 inch and 27 inch will mean that. Nevertheless.....what I am looking at is pretty damn good. It's a TN panel and you have to accept certain issues with that. what you do get is fast response and a cheap price. If you want perfect colors and do CAD etc get an IPS panel and pay up to three times more. If like me you want to surf, write and play games then this monitor is good.

I have a slight color grade change from the bottom to the top of the screen. Bit brighter at the bottom. I'll try adjusting some things. The controls are repoted as hard to use. I don't find it hard.

Level D 767 on flight sim X at 1920x1080 looks great on this monitor.

Words are easier to read as they are bigger than on a 24 inch monitor. I Like that! No more craning the neck forwards to read tiny text!

I was going to get the LG 2753 but the first i looked at in the shop was a DOA. The second had a bright red pixel in center screen so I lost confidence and got the Samsung.

What I can tell you is that I do NOT have a dull fuzzy image. Not in any way shape or form.

I found MagicBright to be just that - too bright! I manually set my brightness to 50% and also adjusted contrast and I now have a very pleasing image. Fonts have not looked fuzzy at all.

FYI, I am using the included VGA to DVI cable, as the laptop I am using (laptop screen as primary, P2770H as secondary extended screen) only has a VGA output.

I think the image was way to bright... problem is that if I turn brightness to 50%, in games, especially in fog or other low light conditions - I simply could not see.

So either I had a big beautiful blinding image, or one that was turn dark... I really didn't want to return this monitor - it just hurt my eyes too much to use for hours on end =(

Adroid:

I'm in the same boat, as I have 13yr old....excellent CRT monitor (Nokia 445Xi Plus). She's served me well for all this time, but she's dying. Keeps blacking out yet the monitor is on. So I'm looking to upgrade. My question is what monitor did you get AFTER you returned the Samsung? I agree in that I too play lots of games (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 an example) for hours on end and don't want to experience what you did.

Then you need to adjust the contrast too! This monitor can be adjusted to the correct brightness level if you use contrast to adjust the difference between darkest and lightest areas.

I can appreciate what you are saying here, but are you a gamer? More specifically, do you play games with low lighting conditions, especially with atmospheric conditions like fog or smoke?

The bane of TN panels are those said conditions. I tried the Asus 25.5 TN panel, and the picture was horrid, especially in said conditions. The samsung panel discussed in this thread was exponentially better, especially in those conditions, but as I have repeatedly posted here - its too dang bright.

And believe me I tried adjusting contrast / brightness / gamma on the monitor and on my GPU nvidia control panel.

Conclusion? Stinging eyeballs, or picture too dark to see in smoke or fog, especially when sniping over distance etc.

For you guys who play MMORPGs exclusively, which are generally not smoky or excessively dark, this might be a perfect fit for you, because its big and beautifull. Beware the dreaded eyesting though

The damn power connected wont stay in! Its like there is a spring in the back of this monitor pushing the wire out =(. Also for some reason I can only get it to go upto 1900/600 on the resolution when connected to an HP dv7-3188cl notebook pc, which has a NVIDIA GeForce G 105M in it.

So back to CostCo this big beautiful monitor goes. Very disappointed.

I must add that I also experienced fuzzy text and extreme brightness when connecting with an HDMI.

Best,

CHUBBY

You should try updating your laptop video card drivers first. When using a monitor of this size it should be logical to assume you need a high end video card to drive the monitor to its best performance. I found the power connector to be difficult to stay connected until I gave it enough force to connect properly. It does have a great warranty so not worried if it would break one day. Just save your receipt. I find the color, contrast and over all performance better than my 22" Viewsonic and for 300 bucks it's a great deal. I paid more for my 22 inch Viewsonic 3 yrs ago. I prefer the 16:10 format over the 16:9 so I will have to adjust but not a big deal. Excellent monitor.
