Please keep it to 1 thread.
I have used this TV with an AMD 6950 XT and have had no issues with getting Windows to give me the option to display at 120hz on any resolution. I bought a 4090 and its on its way. However I am currently using a 1060 which is only HDMI 2.0 since I sold the 6950 XT. Obviously I am unable to get 120hz with the current card. However the 4090 is HDMI 2.1 just like the 6950 XT. According to Rtings the Samsung Q80T is Gsync and freesync compatible. But I don't know if that is true or not. I am checking the Nvidia settings with the 1060 and I see no option for Gsync. Even if I don't get Gsync, will the 4090 give me VRR on the TV like the 6950 XT did?

VRR on nvidia would be gsync compatible, but to use any kind of gsync/vrr, you will need to use displayport, nvidia doesnt supports variable refresh rate on hdmi
and to support proper displayport to hdmi resolution/refresh rate, said dp to hdmi has to be active, passive adapter/cable will limit your tv to 60Hz

I think you're mistaken about that. Nvidia cards starting at the 3000 series can do VRR over HDMI 2.1. I don't know about Gsync though. But like I said, RTINGS has the TV listed as G-Sync compatible and it definitely has no display ports.

I finally switched to Nvidia. I am coming from an AMD 6950 XT to an RTX 4090. It hasn't arrived yet so I am still waiting. My tv is a Samsung Q80T which has an HDMI 2.1 port and has VRR, Freesync and according to RTINGS it is even G-Sync compatible. So here is my dilemma. I sold my 6950 XT and I thought I would have to make do with my integrated graphics until the 4090 arrives. Luckily for me I found an old 1060 in the closet and I am using that right now. I hooked it up to the TV via an HDMI 2.1 cable. I am able to set the TV to 120hz but only at 1080p since the GTX 1060 is limited to HDMI 2.0.

However I thought that I would at least be able to choose G-sync under the Nvidia panel, but nothing is showing up, even the TV doesn't pick up VRR like it would with the 6950 XT. I read something about VRR on the 1000 series only being allowed over Display Port and not HDMI. And that starting with the 3000 series, the cards would allow VRR over HDMI 2.1. So when the 4090 gets here will my TV be able to get VRR from the 4090? Or perhaps the Nvidia panel will display G-sync option? I don't want to have to return the card and go back to AMD.
