I'm trying to clone my HDD to my SSD and I keep encountering a problem.

Currently, I have a samsung 850 pro SSD attached via sata and for some reason unknown to me, I keep getting the message "Cloning Failed. An error occurred while defragmenting the disk. 3083000[04b44c]"

I tried defragmenting my HDD (which is now at 0% fragmentation) and samsung's magician app won't secure erase my ssd. It keeps saying that the SSD is in a frozen state. I've been stuck here for the entire day trying to get it working, but nothing has worked--even when using another app such as EaseUS Todo Backup (free edition). Could someone please help me out?

Try taking the ssd out for a fw mins and then reinstalling. Then try samsung magician to secure erase. If can, try cloning again. I think samsung has a free clone app at their web site.

You should never defrag a ssd. Never.

I don't think I defragged my ssd. The message I get from the samsung data migration app is what gave me the defrag error message. As far as actually (manually) going to the disk manager and selecting to defrag the ssd, that I didn't do. As for taking the ssd out for a few minutes and then reinstalling, I did that already and got nothing, which is why I posted here for help.

I still get a message from magician stating that the ssd is in a frozen state. I tried creating a bootable usb drive, but magician tells me that it failed to create a bootable drive.

It could be that the SSD is just bad. Have you tried creating a partition on the SSD and copying data to/from it? If that works, then I'd try a program like Paragon SSD Migration.

It's $20 but does a nice job of migrating over. I've used it on dozens of computers and never encountered any issues.

Or you can not waste money and use free cloning tools which work great like Macrium Reflect (http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx) or EaseUS (http://www.easeus.com/disk-copy/)

Ok, so I managed to get easeUS to clone my old drive onto my ssd, now it's a matter of setting my ssd's drive letter to C: and deleting unwanted programs in my ssd (since my hdd has all the files). To be clear, my ssd can bootup first and everything should hopefully be fine.
