Hi forum,

I'm currently having a problem with one of my monitors, I use a two monitor and a TV setup and so I'm wondering whether the problem is with the monitor itself or with my computer? The monitor is old (~7 years) and previously had been working fine however now the monitor doesn't pick up signal very often. It started off showing the message not so often and unplugging and replugging the power cable would usually fix the problem once it started however now the message shows more often and plugging and replugging the power cable only fixes the problem occasionally. Is there anything else I should try or is the monitor faulty?

Thanks, Oliver

I would say it's a faulty monitor if unplug/replug temporarily fixes it, evidently nothing to do with signal cable or graphics card or indeed any of your PC's internal hardware. I've seen this problem before and fixed it in the same manner, but had to repeat the fix at every boot up.

Replacing the monitor (which I did do eventually when my patience ran out) was the only permanent fix.

Thanks for the quick responses,

@smorizio, do you mean the power saving options on the monitor?

Also may be worth noting once the monitor is on that it works fine until the PC goes into 'black screen mode' after a period of inactivity, would this help towards a solution?

Cheers
