- Whatever Samsung is using on the G3~G4, the glossy plastic feel... is crap. My old SONY dumb phone has a plastic back that looks and feels a lot better.

- Agreed, for many people - the case shouldn't matter much when they live inside another protective case. Some are thicker and/or better than others. Hence, a thinner phone allows for a thinner case... so why not just sell a screen and body like the Lumina 820?

- But others, like myself - PREFER to not have a case. I like the feel and look of my phones and pay the $3~4 insurance which includes water and screen damage, hence I don't use a case... and in 3 years - I've only broken 1 screen when my Galaxy S1 fell only 2 feet in an odd way. So something like the HTC ONE kicks the Galaxy 4's ass. But my interests is in the new Motorola phone made in Texas.

Won't take much to upstage the same ole iphone every year. it will be same size same look with just a slight speed increase. The Note 3 will certainly embarass the 5S.

Samsung just trying to beat Apple to market because Sam knows Apple is still developing their smart watch. Samsung trying to make the perception that Apple is copying Samsung when iWatch finally comes out. This will force Apple to really need a slam dunk smart watch to compete. Also if Samsung releases a smart watch like the one in the pic then it will be nearly identical to iWatch concepts, shocking!!

Of course there is no release date for Samsung's Galaxy Gear watch but if Sam rushes it out just to beat Apple to market and it performs poorly or appears unfinished, it would be a huge black eye. Time will tell :)

@robochump
As bad as I hate to post up here, how many "ways" can a watch be made? Almost identical to iWatch? SOOOO, iWatch is identical to my Invicta, or my Bulova? Honestly, every watch made looks damn near identical to another watch made. Slap a screen on it and it still looks like every other watch...
And to address the Apple vs Samsung...facts speak loud. Ive owned 2 iphones, and ipods, and i just gave up on them. They looked exactly the same, and every "upgrade" was just a lil faster cpu/graphics and the same tired interface. My iphone 3gs had 4.1something on it....guess what....? 6.1.2 looks the exact same way. And when my iphone battery started slowly holding less charge and i talked to apple and it was double digits to change a battery, i was done. That 8gb that i supposedly had? Only shows like 5 or so in my phone, and thats after a full reset with no apps downloaded. At least with my note 1, i jacked a 16gb card in it, ddnt cost me a $100 bucks for that upgrade. And customization? Its 2013 man, i STILL gotta buy ringtones with apple? wth... Cant even ditch the crappy txt msgn app on iphone unless i jailbreak it. Apple isnt a bad company, but that walled garden mess gonna end up biting them in the butt sooner or later....

Also, as for the plastic, alot of posters made sense. who cares? 90% of you gonna have it in a case. I dont think ive seen one friend of mine with a phone and did NOT have it in one. And i just took my note out of the case bcus the case finally got beat up so bad i ddnt wanna use it anymore. Phone still chugging along tho.

Plastic? Give me modern plastic (actually PCB) any day versus the glass or aluminum "solutions" deployed by Apple. AFAIK, the only iPhone that had decent quality build was the first gen iPhone 3 (and it's variants), anything after that was just meh.

____

I'm with stupid.
As much as I drool over a nice aluminum case, the 1st thing I did with my iPad is get a case for it. The first thing I do with my phone is get an Incipio dual case. Which will continue with the GNote3 when I get one..

I'm really hoping Google gets some Nexus flavored watches soon, as well as more high end devices as Google Play Edition Devices.

Sony Xperia XL Ultra GPE would be LEGEN...wait for it...DARY!

I use a Element case on my iPhone 5 and it is metal. I personally like to build quality of the iPhone over the plastic casing of the other phones. The phone feels really solid in my hand. Having said that though, most people do buy plastic cases for their phone. I think mainly because they are cheap and do a good job protecting the phone but that still does not change how the phone feels in your hand.

I saw the comment about Lumia's. Those phones feel solid in my hand as well and they are not metal so I think the debate is less about Samsung's use of plastic and more about the way the phones feel in your hand. They all feel like empty shells that you would see on the display.

Some people might prefer that but personally I like something more solid.

"It's not just plastic for the sake of plastic...how many removable metal back phones are there? Near zero if not zero 😛" HTC solved this by a side sliding battery. My desire hd has a aluminium casing, and an enforced plastic cover where the battery is.
