So I am saving up for a 27" 2560x1440 monitor and I was wondering, has anyone had personal experience with both the Samsung S27A850D and the Dell U2711? They seem like very similar monitors and with dell's outlet price I can get them for about the same money. I just wanted to know if anyone has any input on which one is better or knows of any flaws, thanks!

I don't have any personal experience (yet) but I have been facing the same decision and after lots of research I am planning to buy the Samsung.

The only thing I can see against the Sammy is that when they were released there were many instances of terrible back light bleeding.

However in Australia recently there are less and less cases of this happening so I think I'll just take the risk and return it if there's an issue.

I decided against the Dell because I have read accounts of the coating on the display producing a gritty sort of effect when viewing whites. I don't think I could live with that.

Thats my take anyway. I hope to have the monitor by the end of the week so I will give you my first impressions if you are still trying to decide.

The Dell WFP2208 is an ultra sharp monitor and the display is great! I have two in use as dual monitors. Three other Dell monitors are also ultra sharp and perform very well. Both in daily use for over 2 years.

All purchased re-furbished (fancy word for 'used').

I do not know about the quality of the Samsung monitors.

How'd you go mate?
I'm stuck between the dell u2711 and Samsung now.
Though I've considered going for 3 tn displays at 24" ( at about the same total price mind you )
I've got a 6990hd so just want a monitor that can put it through its paces on eg guild wars 2...

I bought the Samsung PLS. It's awesome.

If you are still in the market for a 1440p then you might want to wait for next gen PLS:

Definitely a step up from the SA850 that I have and this is reflected in a significant price increase too.

If it were me I would wait to see what the cost would be for the new one. If you can't wait I would recommend the SA850 to anyone.
