Samsung's Almost Done Making Android 4.1 for Galaxy S III

The software for the galaxy s2 was available almost immediately. The captivate was an AT&T specific model with modifications made at AT&T's request. This took longer to validate and was on AT&T to do, not Google/Samsung.

Anyone with a I-9100 international version would have had the update notification within a week or two. I expect the same to happen with the Galaxy S 3. Since the carriers don't seem to be making modifications, everyone should get their update at the same time.

Hope they are better at deploying it for use in the real world and not just talking about it for a year. HTC's still trying to get ICS out. My poor Thunderbolt!

@dalethepcman

The Captivate was one of the original Galaxy S variants, not the S2. Samsung released Froyo after a very long wait on almost all of the S1 variants, and decided to axe Gingerbread and onwards, citing hardware incompatibilities while the nearly-identical Nexus S is now on Jelly Bean.

Yea, hurry up and release this thing so Apple can add all the cool features to iOS 6.

:)

I'm tried of having to jailbreak my iPhone every time iOS is updated so it can have all the Android features and customization.

Very good news, Samsung can stand out even more from the other OEMs by being the first OEM to provide Android upgrades to non-Nexus phones.
I hope they're talking about both version of SGS3, the international and the U.S.
Exciting to hear about SGS2 and Galaxy Note are pending to get the Jelly Bean.(I have SGS2 with TMobile)
Been playing with my N7 for a few weeks now, love the butter.

In a world where ice cream and butter are widely available, iOS will become irrelevant to all except those royalists.

i doubt it will come out soon because Google's flagship (nexus) wont have any selling point, you will find it will still take a while to get certification

Poor Apple. The only thing that they have to hope for the future is to win the lawsuit against Samsung for revenue, because there iOS cant keep up with android and is so boring. Eventually the isheep will wake and realize what they have been missing out on. How can you not love running JB with Apex or Go Launcher. Customization is unlimited.

The best analogy I have heard is Apples iPhone is a point and shoot camera, and Android(SG3, HTC One X) is a DSLR. The DSLR is bigger, more options and gives the user ability to do what you want. whereas the point and shoot(iPhone) you are limited on options and the quality isn't there, and the size is very small.

Well this is good news. I can only hope the validation and the rollout will happen quickly and smoothly. Love my GS3...can't wait for it to be even better.

Camera analogy sucks. A skilled photographer can still get great shots from a PAS camera and another can still take crappy photos from an SLR. Besides iPhone users can do pretty much anything an android phone can. It's just a more closed system with more apps of usually better quality since their tablets and phones tend to be more powerful.

Huh? Perhaps, if you compare it to Android stuff found in the bargain bin at Walmart, but most cost-comparable stuff on Android is faster. Sometimes with the launch of a new product Apple is ahead, but usually not for very long.

Nope, not pretty much anything.
1) Plug in your phone to USB port.
2) Drag and drop music/video.
3) Unplug and enjoy your music/video(any codec).

All the people I know with iPhone has the same generic boring ringtone, lol Apple won't even allow you to set your own mp3 as your personal ringtone.

[citation][nom]The Greater Good[/nom]Only to be released a year later! That's how the Froyo update went for my Captivate. If you don't want to wait, cruse over to XDA and get it now.[/citation]

Absolutely rediculous that Android phones don't get regular updates. Google needs to rewrite the Android terms to require at least a year or two's worth of updates so people don't HAVE to root their phone...

I got the Nexus 7 because Google promises updates regularly - And thus far delivers....

Frikin' 3 year old iPhone 3GS will get iOS 6 in September and my friend's (less than a year old) Droid Bionic is gonna get rooted this weekend because he doesn't know enough to do it himself.

Before anyone poo poos him for being an idiot - he's not tech savvy and that's most of the population - Making something for geeks isn't going to make as much money as something everyone can use...

Now bring on the haters! :)

This is the very worse article I've read in a week. Sammobile is NOT Samsung's mobile blogs. It's a independent fan Site with no official connection to Samsung.

Agreed, Google needs to solve the phone updatability problem. It's unacceptable that Google is already at 4.1 (Jelly Bean) but most people is still two versions behind. Also, a OS version that was released 10 months ago (Ice Cream Sandwich) is only present on 16% of android devices. It's about the same share as Froyo, a OS that was released more than two years ago.

its not google's fault. it is the OEM's who alter the OS to use their own crappy proprietary software . if every phone used the stock version of android then every phone would see speedy updates like the nexus line of phones

necus line is always guarenteed to get updates and all nexus phones (besides CDMA version's) are unlocked out of the box. the nexus line will always be the best droid phones to get

[citation][nom]Zingam[/nom]Actually it is Google's fault. They've created an OS that allows that. It's like you leave your wallet on the street and you say: "It's the thieve's fault." Well, no, it is yours responsibility.[/citation]
To be fair to Google, I'm sure they wanted to do it another way. The carriers are massive douchebags who want to keep all hardware and software locked down. They likely bitched, moaned, drug their feet and even threatened to get their way. Now that Google's foot is in the door, they should stand up though. Or maybe someone should go terrorist on some carrier CEO dicksheads.

Do you actually believe that carriers are solely responsible for this? I hardly believe so. Carriers may not be the best of people to work with but Google isn't a shining example with regards to corporate ethics, either.

so i guess you are an apple fanboi then who is fine with an OS that is restricted to one type of device and will not see another one for another year or 2 with significant improvements

I had no problems coping music, pics and videos to my iPad.

There was no transfer software like iTunes for my Galaxy S1 phone. Not sure if there is any today (is there?). But until a few updates from Samsung/at&t - I could only get MP3s and videos to my phone by using a mini-SD card plugged into my computer. Even still, today - I cannot get access to files on my mini-SD card unless its in an adapter that plugged into my computer. Thus, I have to power down the phone, pull out the card, deal with this crap and then put it back together. hence, I rarely do this.

That seems stupid that you cannot make your own MP3s into ring tone. What about the apple format audio files?

I actually use my old SONY ring-tones (which are MP3s I DL from sony) on my Samsung... :) Much better.

All these work as phones... there are pros and cons to all over them. iOS is less nonsense than anything else out there, even thou it has its own nuances.
