Hello, I am looking for a sanity check on the below selection of parts that I am thinking of putting together. I'm interested to know if anything will not work together/anything I may have overlooked. I'd like to know if you can spot the bottlenecks. I wouldn't mind knowing if I can shave off a few dollars.

The system will be used for hobby gaming, watching netflix/movies/tv. I tend to like graphics intensive games.

If you think the system looks okay, I'd like any insight on any hidden drivers that I will need to install as I build the system. I know keyboard/mouse/monitor are not on the list. I already have those peripherals.

Component Description Interface Cost
CPU Intel i5 6600k LGA 1151 $264.00
Motherboard Gigabyte G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (rev. 1.0) ATX $190.00
Graphics Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti Xtreme Windforce PCI-E 3.0 x16 $630.00
RAM Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400 MHz 16 GB (2x8) 2400MHz, 16GB $80.00
Case Fractal Design S ATX Mid Size $90.00
Power Supply CORSAIR RM Series RM750 750 W $100.00
CPU Fan Noctua NH-D15 6 heatpipe w/ Dual NF-A15 140 mm $90.00
SSD SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 512GB PCI-E 3.0 x4 PCIE,512GB $330.00
HD Seagate SATA 6Gb/s 2 TB SATA 6Gb/s,2T $70.00
Remov. Disk LG Internal UH12NS30 BD-ROM Blu-ray Optical Drive SATA $50.00
SubTotal: $1,894.00
+Shipping/-Rebates: $1,855.00

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Why not go with i7 6700k, not much price difference plus will be future proof. Otherwise everything seems tobe okay.

Well, good questions.

I wanted a fast SSD and I thought the Gigabyte one had what I needed for the drive that I picked.

I see that there are some cheaper Z170s that may do the same thing. I'll have to look at MBs closer.

As for spending money, I built my current system in 2009 and haven't modified much at all. I'd like to build a system that lasts me a good number of years.

IMHO there is a sweet spot between budget PCs (which are a false economy) and high end systems, (which cost a lot of money for small real world performance gain.)
I think the sweet spot is
Fast i5 and mid range motherboard.
gtx960
16GB Ram
conventional SSD
A build like this should last 5-7 years, with maybe a GPU upgrade at the 3 year mark

If you take gaming really seriously, a gtx970 or r9 390 make sense
If you do specific CPU intensive stuff like 3D rendering, streaming games, pro video editing etc, then an i7 and fast SSD make sense

ROG Maximus VIII Hero is a much better MB for that price range, only $20 more, while still retaining mid-range functionality.
The GTX 960 is outdated and overpriced now that the GTX 950 has been released, basically the same performance in every respect.
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB is the exact amount, type, and brand of RAM for your type of system, but see if you can find some for $75 (a drop in transfer rate is acceptable)
Get a Samsung 850 Pro if you want high-quality SSD, the 950 is not what you want. The 512GB model is about $220 I believe.
If you want extreme Graphics power but not 980 Ti level, look to the r9 380x/390(x).
Remember that neither Ti nor r9 is necessary unless you plan on WQHD or above in the NEAR future.
