I have an Hp 8710p laptop and want to updrade to an ssd. Does my laptop need a new sata3 cable to connect to the ssd?

Solution
sata is backwards compatible. if you have a sata2 hard drive in there you can use a sata3 ssd without any issues (will just work at 300mb/s instead of 500)

laptops have a connector that you plug the drive in instead of a cable.

check some how to replace hdd for your specific laptop and you'll understand what i mean
Thx for replying so fast but I was told the seller of the ssd from ebay that I would need a sata3 connector. My current hdd I think is sata2. So, it doesnt make a difference? Thx again
