I recently bought a 3rd HDD for storage and tried to install it on a 3gb/s grey port, but it seems every single one of the four 3gb/s are not working or registering anything. I have a 1TB and a 2TB drive in the 6gb/s ports currently that are working fine.

I have already tried the following:
1)Tested cable and hard drive on a 6gb/s port and it worked there so those are fine
2)Re-installed Marvell controller driver and Jmicron Driver from asus' website.
3)Tried all 4 of the 3gb/s ports one by one, none of them register anything in disk manager and the ports show up empty in BIOS.

Anything idea what this is and what else I can try? All advice appreciated.

-edit- Should also add SATA is in AHCI mode in BIOS

-UPDATE-
I updated BIOS to latest version to no avail. It seems I am missing the marvell storage controller options for some reason as shown here http://i.imgur.com/Vlxl83y.jpg Any idea on why they are not showing up? I tried installing the marvell drivers again but I am unsure if I am even doing it correctly.

Something like this should do the trick: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816124045

I have used similar devices to add additional HDD capacity (needed more ports) with my home server.

For the cost, it is worth a shot.

Regarding your theory, the problem is occurring before Windows begins the boot process. If the BIOS won't detect the attached devices via the blue ports, there must be a problem with those ports. See what I mean?

Also thank you again for the continued help. Getting this extra storage is really important and if I can't figure this out I'm going to have to return this drive and go for a big external drive or something, but I'd really prefer the internal drive if at all possible, and returning it would suck because I bought it online...

Yes this is correct, none of my hard drives or even my CD drive are working when I connect them via the sata 3gb/s ports, yet work fine on the 6gb/s ports. And also yeah I'm not using the external SATA, but I have no option to enable Marvell controllers in my BIOS at all.

Well, you have no Marvell controllers. I think that was an error with manual (probably use the manual for multiple similar motherboard models). You only have the Intel and JMicron controllers.

The issue is that the BIOS does not detect the devices and you have reset your BIOS to default. I suspect a defective Intel controller at this point. This means a motherboard replacement (or you could add a PCIe SATA controller).

Damn. This mobo is from like 5-6 years ago so it's probably not covered at all, and shelling out money for a new one wouldn't make much sense when I could just put it into more external storage.. I remember a long time ago my cd drive used to work on it but it stopped working a very long time ago.

I had DaemonTools on my PC a while ago which is known to mess with your registry and cause your CD drive not to work, but I have long since deleted it and I also tried booted my PC with only my new blank hard drive in the 3gb/s port and my main drives removed and even then BIOS won't detect anything. Do you think this could have anything to do with my 3gb/s ports not working now or no?

Also I will look into the PCIe controller and see if that makes financial sense.

Yeah, that was my exact suspicion as well, looks like we agree there. I will see if I can find that card locally at Fry's or something so the return can go smoother if need be. Thank you so much again for all your help, if there's any special way you want me to +rep you or anything let me know you've helped millions.

Reporting back. FINALLY got it working with the PCI to SATA. I found this http://www.centralcomputers.com/p-306261-pci-e-express-to-msatasata-3-hddssd-controlleradapter-card-asm-1061product.aspx# locally for $20.

Thanks again. Really glad I got it working.
