if i power down my machine and unplug the sata cable from the ssd (so i can change the cable for a longer one) will everything be okay. i wont lose or corrupt anything?
 
Solution
Hard drive can be unplugged for years and still retain data.

As long as you do a normal shutdown of windows, and either disconnect power cable or turn off switch on back of PSU you are not at any risk of damaging anything.

If your PC is on carpet then wearing an anti-static bracelet would be the only other safegaurd I could recommend.
