This is my first build and here are my components:
-850 EVO M.2 SSD, 120GB
-Asus Z170-A
-Intel i5 - 6500
-HyperX Fury Series 16GB PC4-17000 DDR4 Kit (2x 8GB)
-EVGA's New 550 GS Modular Power Supply
-Fractal Design Define R5 Mid Tower Case
-1x new 6TB WD Red HDD
-5x Existing 2TB Hitachi/Toshiba HDDs
-1x existing GTX 480 Vid Card
-1x existing DVD RW drive
Since this was my first build I was always under the assumption that a full ATX board should have enough sata ports for however many drives that I need to plug in (or at least on par with my old machine, which a friend helped built)
Turns out that's not true, and sadly I've only found out about this after I have assembled everything (so refunding would be a big hassle and a big risk or damaging the CPU)
From reading the manual/online reviews it looks like some of the SATA are disabled because the m.2 SSD is in used or because the 3rd Pcie x16 slot is enabled (I'm not using it)
I've tested at least one of the sata ports on the right set of sata ports and they don't seem to work with my current configuration:

It;s very confusing for me to figure out what my options are to be able to plug in all my drives since a lot of things are shared and I can't really make out what's shared with what.
I'll check to see if I can disable the 3rd x16 slot in the bios when I get home tonight...
In the mean time, any ideas?
If I disable the 3rd x16 slot would that give me more sata ports?
Would I be able to use a pcie sata controller card?
What other options do I have?
