First time building a PC, plugging in all of my power supply cables when I got to plugging in my HDD. I have plugged in the smaller SATA cable to the HDD and Motherboard but still have the bigger plug into the HDD from the PSU. The connections that will fit into the HDD are in the middle of the chain but the end of the chain has 4 little holes in it. Do I need to do anything with the end connection with the 4 holes or do I just plug in one of the connections and leave the end hanging loose?

Solution
Just leave it unplugged. You can tuck it out of the way if there is a convenient spot. The 4 holes is the old style disk plug, known as a molex plug. You can get adapters to power fans and even graphics cards from the old style plug.
