Hi all,

About a year ago my external HDD drive fell from the top of my pc onto the floor. This 1,5 foot drop onto a thick carpet didn't seem so bad at first, but when plugged in, it appeared to be broken. I was pretty bummed out, cause there were tons of audio recordings on the disk, but it wasn't untill yesterday I actaully needed data that is on the disk.

I opened the Lacie casing today and found a Seagate Baracuda 7200 rpm, 500 GB SATA, produced in 2007.

The symptoms are:
-if powered, the disk isn't completely dead. There is humming going on like there used to be when it was working normally, but every +/- 3,4 seconds a beepy/clicky hickup happens. After the hickup the humming start again.. and so on.

-there is no spinning going on

-the disk is not recognized in the BIOS

Obviously, this HDD is broken and not working, but I'm just wondering what is broken about it and if there is a chance the data on it could still be recovered.

Thanks in advance,
Simon

Yeah broken HDD data do get recovered. Did you take any software help? Try Recovery software first and if it does not work then second possibility would be Recovery Services. As far as i know they provide consultation before the starting of recovery. In your case nothing can be done except this external help.
While browsing for you i find this url flashing http://www.stellarinfo.co.in/services/hard-disk-recovery.php
Try make be they can help.

Good Luck

Hey there, spoocho!

As jollym124 said you might be able to recover the data but it all depends on how severe is the physical damage from the drop.
You can try to recover it using third-party software utilities like the ones suggested in this thread:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/291895-32-best-data-recovery-software
But if the data is very important to you, I'd recommend turning to a professional data recovery company. It's costly but they are your best chance at getting the most of what is recoverable from your files.

Good luck! Hope I helped! :)
