Question SATA HDD read as PATA

Hi, I have a spare 500GB HD, when I connected it to use the pc reads it as PATA, how to troubleshoot this? Thank you.😑

Exact word is PATA and not IDE ?

SATA controller has to be switched into AHCI mode (in BIOS).
If SATA controller is in IDE mode, all SATA HDDs connected to it appear as PATA.

Thanks CountMike, IIRC it's PATA SM or PATA PE, it was last month when I tried to use it,

Nope, it will make your PC unbootable.

You need to switch the driver to AHCI first and then reboot into the bios and change the sata mode from IDE/Legacy/ATA to AHCI.

Which OS are you running?

For WIN7 this was the process. MS used to have a 1 click fixit button but I see they removed it.
