Hello all,

Quick question regarding Intel H61 chipset.

Does H61 support SATA III (6gig) conections?

According to my searching, it should'nt. Everything I have found states H61 only supports SATA II (3gig) connections, and yet, I keep seeing motherboards with the H61 chipset advertising SATA III (6gig) connections. As an exampe : ASRock H61M/U3S3 LGA 1155 Intel H61 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard.

Am I missing something here, or can I plug a SATA III HDD into this MBO and get 6 gigs of transfer?

Thanks for your help,

Thanks sosofm,

I understand the backward compatabiltiy plugging a SATA 3 into a SATA 2 socket, but I want to plug a SATA 3 hard drive into a SATA 3 sockect and get the SATA 3 (6gig) throughput.

Here's my confusion - according to the H61 spec sheets - H61 does not support SATA 3 - I'm assuming because of that, the SATA 3 should not be functional. But, because ASRock and others have built into the mbo, I gather I'm wrong - I just want to confirm that I am wrong and the mbo SATA 3 does work as advertied.

Any ideas?
