SATA III HDD WITH SATA II cable, what port should i take

i just got a seagate 2tb hdd SATA 3 and a sata 2 cable, in which port should i plug it and is sata3 faster?

First Yes sata iii (3) is twice the speed of sata 2,Second And hdd and sdd are backward compatabilty So if you insert sata 2 on sata 3 hdd or sdd and inserted it in a sata 2 port it will work fine but slow than it should (since you need sata 3 cable for high speed)

but hdd's dont gain from sata3 compared to sata 2 right?

All sata cables are the same. There is no such thing as a sata 3 cable. SATA is backward compatable so plugging a sata 3 drive into a sata 2 port/controller will work fine. The drive's throughput will just be at the lower speed.

Also, most hard drives can't saturate a sata 2 connection, so you probably wouldn't notice much if any difference.

As to (external)Seagate.hdd, i knew all have the nice USM(ie. eHDD:external_HDD equips with an u3cbl:USB3_cable to link PC/NB...etc.), wondering if we can bypass the "u3cbl", directly connect eHDD to PC/NB SATA port via any (22pin)SATA extension cable? TIA.
