Hello Community,

I am posting again to get some accurate advice on how the HDD works.

I have WD Blue 1TB @ 7200 RPM Internal HDD.

I only have one SATA lll port which I am using already for above HDD.

I am thinking about buying another HDD or SSD.

Of course, they will be SATA lll ones, and wondering if I connect them to SATA ll Ports,
Would they work just fine with the similar or same speed as if it were connected to SATA lll port?

In this link, it's talking about the speed of different SATA Cables and not the Port....
http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/SATA-cables-Is-there-a-difference-97/

So I want to get a clear idea if my new HDD or SSD would work just fine connecting to SATA ll port.

I would appreciate the feedback and advice.

Thank you in advance!! :)

Answers as above. So the smart move is to connect ANY SATA HDD (mechanical, with spinning disks and moving heads) to a SATA II (now called SATA 3 Gb/s) port, and save your SATA 6 Gb/s ports for use with SSD units.
Sata II is rated at 3 Gbps, theoretical throughput up to 300MB/s
Sata III is rated at 6 Gbps, theoretical throughput up to 600MB/s
A mechanical hard drive can be read at up at 150 MB/s, so SATA II won't slow it down at all and a SATA III drive is backwards compatible with SATA II.
