I've used SATA opticals (BenQ, Samsung, and LG) on the last few builds I've done, and none have given any grief, including with the installation of WinXP. The smaller cables are easier to handle, and do not obstruct airflow in your case by an appreciable amount.

Is there a performance difference if you have 2 drives hooked up to a single pata port vs seperate sata? Especially when using both simultaneously.
