Ok, I am working on buying components for a new gaming build. Do I want to invest in a standard SATA hard drive at all, or go will just M.2 and SSD? My MOBO will accept 3 M.2 drives, and still leaves 4 SATA ports for SSD.

Solution
Thanks, Should I worry about heat from the M.2 drives? I have plenty of fans, and each would have a heat sink on top.
Heat regarding NVMe drives is an odd subject. It is entirely possible to have them too cool.

NVMe + heatsink is not always a good thing.

Budget and space needs dictate.

I've gone all SSD.
Others are still limping along on a spinning drive.

You're trhe only one who knows your budget and space needs.

I would suggest going with all solid-state if possible for speed and low power consumption, however budget and capacity needs dictate the best choice for you.

M.2 NVME drives tend not to get too terribly hot unless you are doing long sustained reads and writes, which isn't normal for most people. What is the exact mobo as some have heat syncs built-in?

I am "still limping alon a spinning drive" since I had an old one unused and wanted some more storage. This drive is so old it still said Samsung on the sticker. Samsung doesnt even make HDDs anymore.
