I have a AMD 790X mother board which has SATA1 and several PCI-e 1.0 interfaces. I also have a 750gb external hard drive that I currently use for storage/backup and it has a USB 3.0 interface(which is under utilized right now). I can get a PCI-e card with USB3.0 jacks pretty cheap. Should I consider using the external drive as my main drive? My old HDD is a 6 year old SATA1 500gb drive. Would I see any performance gains running the external through PCI-e/USB3 over what I currently have?
