When I am hooked up tp printer and trying to scan, pdf is not listed as an option under the scan menu (right right before hitting scan button), only jpg bmp, tif, and png are options. Is there a way to save scan as pdf?

Also, I can't save as pdf later after saving as jpg during scan, correct?

Solution
Try THIS free program to use as your scanner software.

You can do a multistep conversion to pdf in Windows like the first method HERE.

thanks real beast, I downloaded the program but when it scans it only scane the top left corner of document?

You can actually in Windows 10. Windows has a built-in pdf converter.

Open the jpg file (default opens in MS Photos), then select Print.
When the print dialogue opens, change the printer selection to "Microsoft Print to PDF", then hit "Print". You will then be allowed to choose a location to save the pdf file.

edit for clarification

Personally I would rather use a 2-step process than install a third-party app, as I don't frequently convert documents to pdf.
