[citation][nom]scanlia[/nom]Nah, I like VGA because it "has no limit on resolution" and HDMI can only go up to 2560x1600 or something. Wait, HDMI supports high quality audio too though... ?[/citation]
1920×1200 is max at 60hz progressive, even with the 1.4. You can do higher res with 1.4 if you go to a much lower rate (24hz). You're thinking dual link dvi probably; which will do 2560x1600 at 60hz (this is what I run on my primary monitor) or 3840×2400@33hz. Displayport is superior with a top end of 3840 × 2160@60hz; although a lot of monitors still don't support displayport from what I've seen.

Personally I think something new needs to come out that will do at least 2560x1600@120hz for 3d support at a decent res.

VGA only goes to 2048x1536@85 Hz.

[citation][nom]rwpritchett[/nom]Now, when will they get rid of the PS/2 port?[/citation]

Absolutely not. PS/2 supports n-key rollover, or NKRO. USB only goes up to 6KRO. This is a huge difference to a lot of people, especially professional software designers.

This is like telling everyone to be rich. Cheap monitors, especially CRTs, are still taking advantage of VGA connectors. It's not like we all have HDTVs in our houses.

I'll understand if it's like DDR2 to DDR3 transition. Something's cooking behind this... :heink:

No thanks but I much rather keep my bulky crt screens plus VGA isn't going to die any time soon. Knowing industry and general behavior in the markets it would take up to a decade for vga to die many years after no additional support from the top hogs. As for PS/2 it is better over usb for a lot of reasons and I have had enough of those crappy usb keyboards and mice that only last for a few months tops before going bad.

i run 24" 1920x1200 on vga. couldnt be happier or care less about dvi/hdmi. audio throu video cable is a nice idea if you have tv and no real speakers. dvi adds next to nothing in quality, but is admirably easier to use and setup than vga. displayport is far too new and too few devices use it. 99.9% of users dont know/care/want it.

as it is, 2015 sounds about right for the phasing out of the vga port. Not sure what elese is ati going to do, as I havent seen a vga ported card for couple of years now.

Video: HDMI
Printers, Keyboards, Mice, Sound: Whatever the Current USB Standard is (now 3.0)
All those other useless ports on the back of a computer just need to die or convert to USB.

[citation][nom]tpi2007[/nom]I'm still on VGA and it seems there are still a lot of brand new 22 inch Wide Full HD LCD's from Brands such as LG and Samsung that still have ONLY a VGA port.My cousin wanted a cheap monitor earlier this year and he got a brand new LG, Full HD, 22 inch Wide 16:9 that only has VGA. And they want to get rid of it in three years ? Make that seven.[/citation]
Typical nontech-savy person buying into old hardware. How about doing research then buy something?!

Realizing the quality difference between digital and analog video output really changed it for me. Surprised that so many people stick with analog...is beyond me. Ends up being someone has to force change...

FYI, I dropped analog display probably about 4 years ago.

I'm using 37" Sharp at 1080p, HDMI quality sucks compare to VGA, I don't know why, the 1080p seems blurry and VGA is a lot sharper.
Can anyone explain that to me?

VGA just works... DVI at times is cranky never tries Display port or HDMI though but DVI was always a bitter cranky experience for me - Though VGA just worked rather over worked so its time to rest... RIP VGA... Will Miss you dear Humble Friend...

[citation][nom]rwpritchett[/nom]Now, when will they get rid of the PS/2 port?[/citation]
PS/2 port is still much better than USB for keyboards. Termination interface vs polling interface, which offers full n-key rollover for boards that support it =D

'Anyone still using a VGA port ?'

That makes me feel like I'm living under a rock. I've got a 2004 era PC, with a minor RAM and HDD upgrade. And..... *sigh*.....a CRT. There. I said it.

A few months ago I ventured to wire my gaming PC to my 32" LCD TV using an HDMI cable. I was appalled by the poor picture quality, and the fact that I had to play around with settings in the Catalyst control panel just to get the image to fill the screen. Upon further reading, the wiser and more credible video junkies agreed that HDMI is just a marketing gimmick. The picture I got using the VGA cable on the HDTV was *sooooo* much better than the HDMI c_rap. And you also have to tell the TV what your HDMI source is, so that it loads the correct signal profile for a decent picture. Fine as long as you don't take your rig anywhere else, but from time to time I use it for exhibitions and waste an inordinate amount of time configuring the exhibit HDTV just so that the picture looks good. HDMI = bullc_rap. And to date, I have NOT seen a single LCD monitor or HDTV in the asian market that has display port. What they claim about HDMI having more vibrant and clear pictures is just sales talk. So untrue. The only thing HDMI has going good for it is the video + audio over a single cable. But as any enthusiast knows, its pointless. Why pump sound through a pair of tinny speakers when you can hook up a PC to a monstrous 7.1 sound system via SPDIF coax or fiber optic cable? Even modestly priced 2.1 speakers sound better than built-in LCD TV speakers.

My Secondary 19" Sanyo HDTV Still Uses VGA (Through A DVI To VGA Cable On My 9800GT 1GB) But My Main (A Dell 20" 2001FP, Is Using DVI) Ive Been Using DVI Since My Second LCD In Late 2002 On My Main Monitor And Started Using Dual Displays In 2006 Unfortunately Both The Original Secondary (A 17" HP) And The Current Secondary Have Both Been VGA Only Through Said Cable. Personally I Prefer DVI Over VGA But Why Throw Away A Perfect Usable Monitor? Allthough I Would Not Be Sad If They Done Away With It. Parallel, Serial, PCI And PS/2 Need To Go The Way Of The Floppy As Well (I Havent Used A Floppy Since Sometime In Late 2000)

I think VGA still has quite a lot of use left in it. For instance, you can use a Component-VGA cable, no converter, to hook up any device with component out to a Monitor so long as you can switch the color scheme from RGB to [insert other name for composite color] and back again. My brother does that with his dell monitor but I can't do it with my Asus monitor.

[citation][nom]Darkv1[/nom]I kicked VGA and have been DVI or HDMI only since like 2004...[/citation]

I began using DVI in 2007 and my latest PC (2008 card) doesn't even have VGA.Any body noticing a trend here? first BIOS and now VGA. Soon it will be PCI slots as well
