That's what I heard, but I don't really know.
I have a toshiba satellite A210-127 laptop with original SATA II HDD, the BIOS has no SATA/RAID configuration options at all and wouldn't have those even if I had updated it (confirmed with toshiba tech support).
I'm replacing the HDD with samsung EVO SSD soon and I'll install brand new win7 x64 onto it.
I'm worried it'll run in IDE mode, there are different opinions on the internet, some people say the drive will pick up AHCI mode automatically, some say it won't.
The mobo is based on AMD/ATI SB600 bridge and I learnt that it supports AHCI, yet toshiba guys say it does not.
In another thread online I read that somebody with SB600 bridge force-installed SB800 drivers as they performed much better than SB600 drivers, NCQ-wise.
Could some of you, experts, enlighten me please? I'm confused so badly.
I tried to find the SB600 or SB800 AHCI drivers but I didn't find any for an hour, if you know which ones I should install I'd be grateful for a link (also, use them when? During windows setup or after windows is installed?) D'oh! I'm confused, so many questions.
I appreciate any help.
