Hi there,

I know this has already been discussed very often and I have read it all very carefully and tried whatever was suggested, but I still can`t get my Canon 4200F scanner to work with Win 7.

Following the instructions of artisan_54 here:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/35089-63-scangear-windows
I now have installed Canon Color Network vers. 7.21 and set the compatibility options of the ScanGear Tool on "XP (Service Pack 3)". Opening the ScanGear Tool my scanner doesn`t show up in the hardware list. Clicking on "search" it says the scanner was found, though.

Trying to scan in several programmes, they all tell me either "TWAIN triber missing" or "Scanner not found, please select one in ScanGearTool".

I`m not an expert at all and would be quite thankful for some help!

Solution
Make sure you installed all the required software properly and make sure the WIA service is started. Access the path below to check the same.
Start
> Type Services.msc in search bar
> search for WIA in the window
> Double click and set it to Started if it is not.
Another thing I noticed is, although Canon supplies driver for the 64 bit Windows 7, and WIA driver is required for the scanner to operate. The WIA driver that comes with the 4200F is 32 bit and will not load.
If the issue is as I said second about the WIA driver then cannon should answer the question best.

I got this from Microsoft Forum community. It is not mine.

Hi,

We need to make sure a certain folder path is in your path environment variable.

Let us determine the correct path to add into the Path environment variable. Look in C:\Windows\twain_32 and there should one other folder in there. For example the folder name should be CNQ4803.

This is the path that is needed to be added into the path environment variable.

C:\Windows\twain_32\CNQ4803

Now, follow these instructions to get to the dialog to modify the path environment variable.

a. Control Panel > System > and then choose Advanced System Settings in the left hand column.

b. This will bring up the System Properties dialog (it should already be on the Advanced tab).

c. At the bottom of this dialog is an Environment variables button. Clicking this button will bring up the Environment variables dialog.

d. In the bottom panel, scroll until you find the variable named path. Select this one and then hit the Edit button to bring up the Edit System variable dialog.

e. In the Variable value text box, scroll all the way to the right and then add in the path C:\Windows\twain_32\CNQ4803 that was determined earlier. Make sure to separate this value with a preceding semi-colon. And also be careful not to make any other changes to this value.

Now click on OK and check if it works.

If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to contact Canon support for more information:
