When I scan at 300dpi or above with my Scanjet 4p in Windows
2000, it puts randomly placed and colored horizontal bands
in the scan.

Is there something like a color filter motor that's sticking
when making the smaller movements required for higher resolution
scans? It works absolutely perfect for any DPI below 300.

Already looked there a while ago. Looked up the dead HP links on
www.archive.org

None of that applies. The colored bands are HORIZONTAL, not
vertical.
