Scanning and repairing drive (C:) 9% complete

I am having trouble with my computer which has windows 8 installed. When i shut it down and open it up again it gives me the screen where it says scanning and repairing drive (C: 9% complete. It has been repairing the drive for 1 day now and it's only at 9%, i can't skip the repair, it doesn't let me hit spacebar before the repair starts. I have tried rebooting the computer several times, nothing helped. Should i let it finish?

Since its stuck that long I'd think about buying a new drive, reinstalling windows, then reconnecting the old drive and try recovering the data.
