Hello Forum Friends,

My young one wakes up in the middle of the night and uses the Wi-Fi to watch Youtube videos and talk to friends overseas. I'd like to schedule my modem or Wi-Fi to turn off during certain hours. I know it can be done, but have no idea how. I have a NVG589 modem with a VAP2500 wireless access point that can be accessed by http://192.168.1.254.

Thanks,

Christopher

The feature you want is called parental controls. Neither of these devices have that feature and ATT when you get their uverse product makes it almost impossible to replace their equipment.

Even if it did have the feature you would have to implement it on the modem/router, even a more advanced AP does not generally have the ability to restrict traffic.

Be nice if you could just toss the ATT stuff and get a box that has the feature but that is not a option.

I would look for a inexpensive router that has parental controls and replace the VAP2500. To make things simpler to start ...ie not messing with the main att router... I would run this device as a router and plug it into the modem/router in place of the AP. Normally we do not...

You will want to set a different SSID on this device and give the child the password to only this one. You want to change the password on the main router SSID to prevent going around and connecting to the main router to bypass your new router.

Parental controls can get pretty complex but what you can start with is just disable all users that connect to that router from using it during the night.
