Alot of you know of and have heard about Scott Yates over the years. He
passed away this evening in the ICU of UK Hospital (Lexington, Ky) from
complications of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. This all happened very quickly with
Scott as he started getting ill back in the spring. Scott was 46 years old,
and is survived by his brother "Griss" and son Bradley.

Scott was one of those guys you never forgot once you met him, ...
definately excentric to say the least. He traveled from state to state
buying and selling pins and video games at auctions. When he would find a
nice condition pin, he would always call us and see if we wanted it, and if
so, he would bring it back to Louisville for us. Some people didn't like
Scott, but I'll tell you one thing, .. he always was a man of his word, and
if he gave it, .. you could take it to the bank. Our deepest sympathies go
out to Griss and Bradley.

Allen, Brian, Kevin & Ray.

I'm really sorry to hear that. I know he was often the butt of many jokes on
RGP, but it's truly sad to see someone pass.

I did not know Scott, but I learned a lesson in life about this very
issue. There are some people who in life rarely ever bring a smile to
a face.

But even being the butt of a joke you bring happiness to another and
make them laugh. That's priceless. I think I'd rather be remembered
in a joke, than not remembered at all.

That's really sad to hear. I really hate hearing about the loss of
someone so young. And it's even worse to have to fight something that
there is no cure for. Hope he went peacefully.

Our regards to the family and especially his son. I know what my son
means to me and it would be a terrible day if we ever lost one another.

Please pass on our sympathies if you are in contact with the family
Allen.

Sincerely,
Tim and Ethan

It wont be a superauction without Scott. 🙁

My condolences to his family and friends.

I've had the oppurtunity to get to know Scott, Griz, and Bradley over
the last year. Their shop is about 5 minutes from my house. I stop by
on my way home from work whenever I can, just to talk. I have become
friends with the three of them and Scott was without a doubt the center
of the family. Griz and Bradley always looked to Scott for his
leadership. He has worked hard his whole life and has been taken too
early. Anyone who knew Scott personally knows what a great guy he was.
He was a man of his word and worked his fingers to the bone to provide
for his family. Please keep the Yates family in your prayers through
these rough times.

Wow, that's sad to hear. I never knew him, but thinking about all
those threads over the years makes me smile. This hobby is full of
colorful characters like this, especially at these auctions. All my
best to his family.

I never talked to the guy, but I saw him in Dallas and St. Louis
auctions a few times.

Never had any problem with him, either. I *did* have a problem with
the collectors moaning and bitching on the newgroups about "boohoohoo,
doo rag didn't let me have his machine for $50".

Folks, that's how he made his living. How about I show up in your
office some day and publicly insult the way YOU make a living? There's
a lot of folks that really went over the line as far as this guy was
concerned, and I hope he didn't take it too personally.

Same w/ Richard Chez. I know his auctions are ridiculous, and I've
said so on rgp many times myself. But I've delt with directly via
e-mails and always had favorable results, and for stuff I could not
find anywhere else. I now feel bad for all the dumps I took on him via
rgp posts.

When I bite it, I'm proud to say there might be one or two "Anybody
heard from Frenchy?" posts three months after I'm under the 108 cubic
feet of cold dirt...and that will be the end of it.
Soon after it will be revealed that even those posts were from
collection agencies >: ()

OK, I won't :-D here's another dump:

Look at chez's feedback sometime and on the negs he gives other people,
he says "They didn't teach reading where buyer went to school"

well, on his auctions, he can't spell Illinois (where he lives no
less), so I guess they didn't teach spelling where he went (nor
geography)!!!

I feel better already! thanks Manic!!!

Maybe some of those people that mocked this guy into the ground could
step up and start some sort of memorial fund for his family.

I'm sure there would be people more than willing to donate to it.

Funny how people can be discriminated against for such silly things.

I never knew him or noticed him at any auctions, but from what Allen
and some others say he was a hard worker and honest.

How about it guys? Who wants to step up? I'll be happy to contribute
if someone knows how to channel it to the proper family members.

Hey Steve,

Could you put Scott's name on the page? I think it is proper, don't you?

Some people have no couth, Allen. While I did not agree with Scott's
tactics at auctions,( and yes, I did get t o see him in action ) I am
ashamed that someone from this group would post something as nasty as
that stuff. The man had family, and I am sure he had friends that
enjoyed his company. It is a sad day when anyone passes and should
never be addressed in such a manner. I wish his family the best and I
hope you can ignore the ignorant comments of an imbecile and not let
them interfere with your moving past the loss of a friend.

he had to..He came up with more games that we ever will from the hills
of who knows where.andhe was to me always willing to work with you
even if he bought it back.. HE will be misse at the auctions!!

Allen keep in mind, keyboard warriors hiding behind their computer
screen using generic mail accounts are the sort that do this thing.

We are not in a sad state, the jackass who wrote the post is though!!!

Nice post, Allen. I love how some here thought he was "dirt" only to
find from you, he was a man of his word. Having worked construction
for some 30 years or so, I've met many like Scott. Not much to look
at, but they'd give you the shirt off their back if you needed it.

I've learned to never judge a man by his appearance.

I'm sure he will be missed by those that loved him.

I have to say, I don't understand it. All this anomocity towards a man,
because what? You didn't get a bombed out TZ for $50?

Chill out, a man has died. And you could be next.

Yes, I didn't like his tactics, but they hardly matter now.

It's important to say here, too, that the guy wasn't doing anything illegal
or against the rules. EVERY OPERATOR that sells has the opportunity to buy
his own game back. That's why they charge Ops a 5 dollar fee for every game
bought, instead of the 10 percent commission. If they charged 10 percent to
all the ops, they couldn't buy back 3 or 4 thousand dollar games because
they'd have 3 or 4 hundred dollars worth of commission to pay. Doo-Rag
bought his own games back, yes, but he also paid the 5 dollar fee designed
to allow ops to do that in the first place. Everybody talks about him shill
bidding, everyone selling at these auctions either shill bids or is selling
something that's such a steaming pile that they don't care what they get out
of it. I'm not saying "Oh everybody's cheating" i'm saying "Everybody's
doing what the rules allow them to do".

always on the move and working hard, he will be missed it's colorful
characters like him that make auctions fun to go to even if you aren't
in the market for a game.
