Greetings!

I am student and I want to build a graphic workstation (Vray rendering) using some used parts ( Z620 barebone, XEON E5-2670 , DDR3) and new GPU .

I found at a local seller 2x XEON cpus at a good price (1/2 or 2/3 of what I found on internet) with some scratches and signs of usage. They are in working condition.

What are the risks I assume by buying them? They might not work @full capacity ?

Kind wishes

Tbh I can't imagine a way how to scratch server cpu lid in normal use conditions, I would be very cautious about those... Smells a bit shady to me. Can you get a photo?

are these just scratches on the lid? If so they were probably pulled out and just sitting on a shelf they are 5 your old cpus. The scratches can be removed by lapping the lid, which in return will give you cooler temps 😀

if all the pads on the cpu look fine it will probably just need a good cleaning and lapping and be finie.

Yes indeed was shady. I asked the seller more info as I need the CPU for architectural rendering and if all cores work @ full capacity . He started talking beside the point and recommended I should buy new ones. After asking him for the answers, he canceled the Selling item .

Thank you ! That was too good to be true.
